Doubtful it’ll be a 2027 model year mandate since most auto makers are preparing to release 2027 models very shortly. If the law passes it will probably be a “by 2029” type thing, maybe 2028 assuming all automakers are already preparing for it
Unfortunately it appears that even if the mandate isn't passed in time to IMPLEMENT the driver monitoring/killswitch functionality on 2027 and later vehicles, the software will still be in place and all it will take is an update to make the feature functional once it does pass. This can of worms will change our existence more than people realize. Our ability to be where we need to be at any given time is too precious...

If I'm stressed and out of sorts and need to get somewhere fast because of my job or some other emergency, who's to say that the monitoring won't detect that and render my vehicle inoperable, even though I'm not impaired? If I lose traction on some ice and fishtail a little around a corner, is my vehicle going to shut down in traffic?

BTW the car manufacturers know that this will kill future new car sales and they are fighting it tooth and nail... and people can appropriately blame Biden for the original draft, but it was buried in legislation that Trump signed... this isn't an editorial on red vs. blue, so I don't want to start another discussion about that... let's just talk about TRXs...

I know that I'm probably on camera 90% of the time and because of cell phones, the gov't knows where I am at all times and knows what I say or text on it at all times, but I don't mind because I have nothing to hide, and I can't do anything about it anyway... but this Big Brother crap is going to hurt every industry when people just stop buying a new anything...

And how do I know my pre-2027 vehicle is safe from this? Engineers know how to retrofit, so if I have to take my truck in for service somewhere, do I choose not to go to a Ram dealership because I'm afraid of them flashing the PCM to render the monitoring feature operable? That's prolly another reason the manufacturers don't want this to come to fruition...

Don't worry about taking your truck in for service. Ram will just send out a FOTA that enables it. But since they can't get a software update right to save their lives, we don't need to lose any sleep.

that's a REALLY good point. Might be time to take a 2nd look into removing the telematics and getting rid of OTA updates
