2027 Running Board Question

Just called AMP. They said that is incorrect. Those are not compatible.
Don’t know what to tell you but they work perfectly fine. It’s the same color wires you tap into on gray plug under dash left of steering column. All 4 doors lower steps when I open each door and all 4!doors raise steps when I close each door.

I took a chance doing it. Not telling you to do it. Just sharing what I did.

Also if you called Real Truck you probably talked to a sales person. If it doesn’t have the year for the part # they are going to say not compatible. They may not have had a chance to try them on a 2027.

When I first started my order, I didn’t realize they were not an option on the build sheet. A dealer I spoke with said RAM stopped offering them because too many were getting destroyed.

Then, he said their dealership doesn’t install the Mopar steps anymore and use only AMP. I don’t know the validity of that, btw.

It’s my understanding that they are both similar with the exception of the uconnect connectability and the AMP deploys a little faster and has lights.

IMHO, I don’t need to control them with my app or fob so I’m happy to go with AMP.

Ram never offered power running boards for the TRX as an option, so that dealer is full of shit.

Installing aftermaket steps instead of the Mopar steps is just stupid for a Ram dealership. If your Ram dealer installs Mopar steps, they will be covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty.

If the AMP steps you're considering plug into the OBD port, I would avoid them. Too much Micky Mouse shit with magnetic door sensors, needing an OBD splitter, etc. If they plug into the CAN bus, they are worth considering.

Overall, I prefer the Mopar boards because I think they look better, can be activated in the UConnect screen, and AMP boards drop down too low. (4" lower than the Mopar steps.)

Magnetic door sensors ?

Yeah, never mind. I was thinking of those goofy ass lights that attach to the pinch seam.
I’ve used AMP steps numerous times but I don’t ever use their lights, I just seal the leads and tie them off.

They did change the style of steps and they look quite a bit more like the Mopar.

You installed the amp steps on your 27 TRX? If so how was install? I recently purchased a set and I’m looking forward to putting them on in the fall once the truck comes in.
Install was easy, exactly per the instructions.

Did yours come with a module that you have to plug into the body control module?

If anyone else wants to confirm AMP fitment, Be more than happy to discount some!

@CarbonFiber024

RHO and the 2027 TRX should have the same wiring architecture. Which is different from 2021-2024 TRX. I do not have the post to link exactly but what I read was that 2021-2024 running boards needed either moving pins around or a module. There are mopar power running boards for a 2025 and up which does use the new electrical and does work on the RHO plug and play nicely. Members have confirned. I do believe this to be true because it was the exact same with 2021-2024 Mopar Power running boards. It still states they will never fit a TRX amd dealers will still say it. I have personally installed that 21-24 mopar power on a 21 and a 23 and plug and play. I used alfaobd to turn it on in Uconnect and can control from the screen. I would gurantee that the mopar power steps, as long as it says 25-27 year than it will absolutely work. RHO forum had that part number but I did not save the post.

Why does Ram not confirm it or say it does not fit? No idea. Maybe never tested. Maybe they want to push the stationary boards figuring off road will probably damage the power boards. If it fits RHO it should work a 2027 TRX.

Hope this helps.

Here are the instructions and like ChemLab stated Real Truck probably hasn’t verified fitment. I took a chance since wire colors and locations matched the instructions.

Ok I go it now. These are very different from the mopar ones that come with a module that you have to connect to the BCM.

Thanks for the clarification! I may get these!

Question for you if you know - if the Amp controller is connecting to the OBD-II port (ostensibly just to read the CAN bus to detect door open/close), then why do they have you tapping two wires with the Posi-locks? Assuming those wires are the door sense wires.

I may be wrong but I think the OBD keeps the communication open so it doesn’t sleep and the 2 wires in the harness are the door sensor signals
