🔥 EXPLODED My Front Diff - SOLVED!!

Nah man, the full axle is like $5,000 lol.

Also, I don't know why you'd buy aftermarket gears for the rear when MOPAR has the 3.92s for A LOT less money.
why does the F'in raptor get 4.10s and we get the shaft? Even the dam RHO has better gears 😥 😥

Out with the old! In with the New (comes tmrw)!

I will be at SEMA next week.... maybe something new will finally be released for the TRX. Historically - probably not! :(. I'm sure the Bumble Bee will be garnering a lot of attention - heading to the RAM booth Tuesday morning!

???? What's the front diff that Robby Woods swaps out on his full Bespoke TRX builds? Dana makes some wild IFS versions https://dstrac.com/products/ultra-80-ifs battle tested at KOH/King of the Hammers (where majority of the fastest rigs are IFS).

But you know my vote Brother!
  1. Portals. <- shop that did the initial bolt on stuff is based in Miami, FL. Might be a good 'backdoor' contact to Wolverine Portals (in Bulgaria)? https://werewolftech.com/en/catalog/portal-axles/ <- Given the propensity for Eastern Block 'Comrade, hold my Vodka and watch this!' builds/mods on YT... I'd put $ that someone/somewhere is already playing with a set.
https://portalprosoffroad.com/ ...met these guys years ago at Overland Expo-West. Really need a company that wants to showcase their durability/real world performance AND a custom one-off set for a TRX would at least be more interesting/magazine/YT coverage than the atypical rinse and repeat Toyotas/Jeeps/Broncos. While a set for a RAM Power Wagon would probably have appeal with those dumping $150k+ into a full AEV RAM HD Prospector.

  1. "FTW-FTR" solid axle conversion. In a perfect world - a front end conversion akin to OEM... like the Power Wagon's (and Rubicon) electronic disconnect sway bar in addition to electric lockers. Wish Stellantis would build some neat concepts of other vehicles (RAMs) alike the various one-off/discussion promoting Jeep versions at the annual Jeep Safari/Moab. A TRX 'Rock-crawler/Over-lander' (T-ROX?) with an aluminum high clearance extreme departure angle flatbed (allowing modular 'mission' outfitting) and massive (AEV style) front fender openings w/QR fender flares would at least be original.

To be fair, the 3.55s are a pretty good balance overall with the 35s and the ZF 8-speed. They only did the 3.92 on the RHO because it makes way less power.
I'll give you that BUT Rap also has 35s with 4.10s and a 10-speed (and a front limited slip). Rap R just loses the front limited slip but keeps the good gear ratio.

GREAT NEWS & BAD NEWS...

Good = got the front diff assembly & new axles installed solo. Man that was a pain putting it up there by hand (and knee) while trying to thread the mounting bolts in but i was too impatient to wait for my bud to come lend a hand on Sunday lol.

More Good = raised all 4 wheels off the ground and confirmed we now have power to the front again - whooop!

Bad = blew my driver CV axle AGAIN while leaving the driveway to get the BK lounge with my son to celebrate (see clip below). Obviously, something was bound up somehow b/c the boot popped the second i let my foot off the brake. That's 2 driver CV axle boots blown in less than 2 weeks. 1st time was the inner boot on that obstacle at Stony. Now the outer boot took a dump. I think this one was defective though because i didn't overwork the joints at all during install.

All in all I'm stoked. I can replace the axle now in like 40 minutes. Just sucks that I'm now replacing the 3rd driver CV axle in like 3 weeks time. Shit's getting expensive with no powertrain warranty boys!

I wonder if you stepped down the lift a little and trimmed some more if that would fix the axle issues. To me, that failure rate is untenable. I’m at 40k miles on stock axles with 37’s and no lift, for comparison.

Yea I'd be looking to change some stuff up to reduce the number of axles you go through lol. I'm at nearly 80k miles on my stock axles with 37s and the 1.6" Eibachs.

If we went back to 1.6" lift we'd probably be (mostly) fine. We never had any axle issues until we jumped to 2.7" lift

37s and 1.6" lift is the sweetspot for that truck. I never had any issues with that setup. The week i jumped up to 2.7" lift, i blew both axles 😂

4th New driver CV installed today. All good so far, whoop!

Prelim conclusion: 1st CV shat the bed when diff tube shaft blew apart on that obstacle. 2nd CV (inner seal) got damaged when i drove home 550 miles with an exploded diff tube shaft plunging in/out. 3rd CV (the one that blew the boot on the very 1st rotation of my tires) was either defective or perhaps it got bound up during installation.

4th CV is the charm! 2 more spares just arrived today so we’re locked & loaded for the next offroad trip 🤣🤣
