TRX Fuel Economy

I did not have great expectations on the mpg but I am actually disappointed with the numbers they are estimating. I suspect most of us are going to fall into an average of 9 mpg. I wish they would have incorporated a larger tank in order to increase the distance between refueling. My biggest complaint on my Toyota Tundra is the fact that I can only travel 320 miles without having to stop and fill up, looks like we will be in a similar situation with the TRX. I have reached out to several companies for a direct replacement long range tank or an additional tank that could be used as a range extender. All parties seem interested but want to confirm there is a large enough interest to justify their R&D. I have attached the companies and contacts that I have spoken with. Wouldn't the fuel tanks that fit the regular 1500 fit the TRX?
My impression that are a few options and that both the full replacement larger tank, and the spare tire add on will fit...

That would really depend on whether or not the routing/diameter of the exhaust is different from the regular 1500's as well as whether or not mounting points are the same between them with the changes to suspension and chassis.

In my own experience, I have found that this is something that can be gotten used to. I had a 2018 Ford Focus RS which had the gas tank from the Fiesta (around 11 gallons) because that was the only one they could fit under the car with the AWD system. With the 17-18 MPG that car got I would yield around 180-200 miles per tank of fuel. It was annoying the one time I drove from St. Louis, MO to Seattle, WA, but other than that it was fine...just more time at the pump was all.

I thought this comparison and evolution put it into perspective nicely. Close numbers at low speeds, at higher freeway speeds weight and aerodynamics appear to be a significant factor.

Just looked at what I was getting in my Platinum 5.0 and I am averaging 14.9 mpg over the last 2,800 plus miles. Didn’t buy any of my trucks for gas mileage and I never look at it.
I was getting 14-15 mpg on my 2017 Raptor

It really depends on your driving, I used to get a combined 12 mpg with my Charger Hellcat with a unique 1 speeding ticket per month : )

I would really like to get the fuel range up to around 450 miles (aka 50 gallons). If anyone runs across a replacement tank that fits, please post.

Going to be tight. We are already got a 33

lol

i guess im in a really good spot right now then..

my power wagon can squeeze 300miles out of a tank on 37 inch tires, but for my daily commute with stops and gos and do si dos, i see something like just over 200 miles before i have to fill up haha (this is because i let the 392 scream 24/7)

my HC would swallow fuel at literally the same pace, but i could squeeze a road trip at 20mpg if necessary.

thank god i dont give a crap

the most fun vs economy was my 2013 audi S6 APR tuned that would do about 11 in the quarter and could literally get near 30MPG at a slow pace.

Has anybody thought about running full E85 with a tune? I see flex fuel kits for Hellcats and I’m sure vendors can transition it over to the TRX.

It is relatively likely that the kits for the Hellcats will be nearly plug and play on the TRX...unless RAM went out of their way to make it different just for the hell of it.

Anyone that get's 13 MPG in this truck is doing something wrong...

I track my MPGs in every car every fill-up. I always find it interesting to see how habits can change MPGs.

One time I was towing my Jeep to Moab from AZ with my GL550. Passed my dad at some point crossing the reservation; he was also towing his jeep. When we talked the next day, he told me that he got 12 miles to the gallon towing with his Denali. I complained and said I was less than 10... his words... 'if you drove like you were towing, you would probably get better gas mileage...' But what fun would that be.

With the GL, I had to have weight distribution perfect on the trailer, in which case it towed like a champ at any speed. But the room for error is so much less than a truck designed to tow. I was right at the combined gross vehicle weight with that previous setup.

I had same experience with Audi rs 5. Super fast car but just loping along on interstate it got high 20s mpg

My 13 s6 could go 28 mpg tuned with a 3.2 0-60. It’s just incredible how high hp cars can be efficient but that hasn’t tickled to trucks yet haha the eco raptor returns the same mpg as my 2500 if you romp it

This truck has an obsession for gas. I have 550 miles on it and have not gone past 35% to 45% throttle and I am around 9.5 MPG. Most computer shows off a full tank is 355 mile range. That I do have to say my tuned 17 Raptor with CAI and exhaust got great mileage. But like we say we did not get it for fuel economy.

Guys do the math. If you drive 12000 miles and you get 12 mpg the cost is about $3000 per year . At 20 mpg your cost is 1800 dollars. So you are spending 1200 dollars per year to get this beast that cost you 100k. The gas cost is relatively unimportant or insignificant.

It’s not the direct cost that annoys me on the mpg. It’s the lack in total mileage between refueling that gets old relatively quick. A truck of this caliper should be able to travel at least 400 miles without having to stop. Hopefully someone will come out with a larger fuel tank that mounts in the oem location.
