I know there are some good stories out there, so let's hear them! What's your best recovery story? Were you the hero pulling someone out of a mess, or the one who needed rescuing? No judgment here... we've all been there!

How many of you carry both a tow strap and a recovery strap? They're easy to lump together when gearing up for an adventure, but they serve two very different purposes.

Tow straps have very little stretch and are designed for steady, controlled towing. Remember those sketchy ideas back in the day for getting your buddy's broken-down truck home? A properly rated tow strap, attached to appropriate towing points, is made for controlled pulls. Not yanking someone out of a mud hole!

Recovery straps, also called snatch straps or kinetic straps, are designed to stretch under load, storing and releasing energy to help free a stuck vehicle. Your buddy buried his truck in the mud... again... and the recovery boards aren't cutting it? That's where a properly rated recovery strap comes in. That stretch makes a big difference!

The RealTruck pros put together an article breaking down the differences, when to use each, and some important dos and don'ts: Recovery Straps vs. Tow Straps

Here's something you might not know: Buying the highest-rated recovery strap isn't necessarily the safest choice. An oversized strap may not stretch properly with a lighter vehicle, increasing shock loads on the recovery points. And using a low-stretch tow strap to yank a stuck vehicle free? That's asking for trouble!

The right equipment, proper ratings, and appropriate attachment points make all the difference.

So let's hear those recovery stories! What's the worst situation you've gotten yourself (or a buddy) out of, and what equipment saved the day?

From earlier this year. This is my 2024 ZR2 Diesel with Boulder MT's. It was so soft in this 100-yard piece by the fence that the motor grader got stuck and it took him 15 minutes using the blade and pivoting to get out.

Wow!
That is a wild one. If the grader was getting stuck too, you know that ground was seriously soft.
