For about a week now, I’ve owned a healthy ‘27 TRX. I owned a ‘21 TRX from about the summer of 2021 until about New Year’s Day of 2025. This new one has countless upgrades and quality of life improvements, but I felt compelled to mention some of the things I actually miss about the old truck.
>The center console, right under the head unit screen used to have a little cubby hole where I stored my keys and/or wallet. That’s gone now due to the larger screen and the dual wireless contact charging points (which, by the way NEVER add an incremental charge to anything no matter what brand or setup I try, they can only maintain my charge at best). I find myself looking for that little missing “hole” every time I jump in. I’m pretty sure that convenient little TRX cave is what made me switch to a Ridge wallet years ago because it would fit perfectly in there.
>The huge Uconnect screen now extends about an inch above the dash, which partially blocks the little center tray with the cigarette lighter socket. I forget that tray is there, and the small amount of screen bezel overlap obscures the view of my false “FIRE MISSILES” lighter that I feel is a necessity for every TRX owner to put in that exact lighter socket.
>I can’t remember exactly which physical dash buttons I’m missing, but I’m not a fan of having so many functions living only within the touch screen. I haven’t owned this truck through the winter yet obviously, but I can see this being a pain once I’m jumping in the truck with gloves on.
>The volume and tune knobs were reduced in size by roughly half. I actually liked the bigger physical knobs better, even though they were Fisher Price-sized, I now miss them.
>There’s something I don’t like about the backup camera display. Maybe I haven’t adjusted the settings to my own liking, but when I’m in reverse, the backup camera is less than a quarter of the screen, and the aspect ratio is distorted. I’m not that old, and my eyes aren’t bad, but at least give me the full width of the available display when I’m trying not to back over my idiot dog.
>No USB port inside the center console??!! How’d they miss that?? Why go through the trouble of wiring a 115 AC outlet to the inside, and not include USB ports? What am I supposed to use that 115 receptacle for? A USB charging block??
>The leather on the seats, while soft and supple, shows several signs of, “We just stretched these TRX leather covers over the standard 1500 seats.” Not nearly as drum tight as my old truck.
The list of improvements is much longer, and I’m not even getting into that, but I wondered if anyone else was missing some of the items above, or if anyone could teach my dumbass what I’m doing wrong.
