The infamous CLUNK: Driveshaft Spline Pictures

I had the clunk. I installed the grease kit myself. Just a temp fix. Bought the ripa shaft, it was delivered damaged so i sent it straight back. Bought the east coast driveline shaft and have not had a clunk since.

I had a clunk that got louder. My mechanic did something with the sway bar to fix it(I’m a girl so I have no idea what they did). It went away but now I have a different clunk on drivers side front. It doesn’t get louder, and it stays consistent with little bumps. The faster I go the less it clunks. I live in Canada and it’s very cold. One of the mechanics said it could be ice stuck underneath. Anyone else have clunks from ice? I’m hoping that’s all it is.

Probably still driveshaft if never done, ice definitely can be a issue in cold belt...

No, thats definitely not the driveshaft. Its most likely the CV joint, but I cant say for sure unless you record a video. Or you can just get under the car and check for any damage to the rubber or signs of grease leakage.

Took my truck in this morning for the third time to address "The Clunk".

The first two times the dealer just re-greased the splines. First time was whatever trash grease they had on hand then second time with Ford grease. Both times the clunk came back within a couple thousand miles. They finally caved and ordered a new driveshaft. They also mentioned they are going to use an anti-seize grease this go around with the new shaft.

Fingers crossed. If this doesn't do the trick, its East Coast Driveline time.

Here are some pictures of the original driveshaft splines. They don't look too bad...

Just had my fixed while the dealer was replacing the heads. There is a TSB out there for replacement ask you service rep. See snap shot below

I’ve got the same clunk noise like every TRX out there. I was really excited when I heard Ram came up with a fix, but it turns out they are just replacing the driveshaft with the exact same part number that’s already in my truck.

I had a clunk at low speed bumps that ended up being loose tie-rod ends.

If they are offering to replace it I'd let them do it and just regularly grease the new one. I was lucky to learn about this issue on here before I took delivery of the truck. I greased the splines right when I got it home and at 3k mile intervals and I'm at 36k now and never had the clunk.

Wow thank you guys for your replies and suggestions. My brother drove it today. Said sounds like shock absorbers?? It has a date with the mechanic next week.

Sway bar end links is what the mechanic probably tightened or replaced. My 21 TRX is making a metal clunk noise up front on both sides and from what I've read up on the end links are garbage and can have loose bolts. I already had my two front CV shafts and front diff replaced under warranty so that's not it on mine. I don't think ice build up is your issue. I'd have your mechanic look at the shocks for leaks and both front CV shafts for grease leaking out. If nothing is leaking maybe revisit the swaybar end links?

RAM replaced mine per the TSB. No problems so far

Is the new shaft updated somehow? I really don't want to take mine in and have somebody else work on it. I'm kinda funny about that stuff. I might just grease mine. I can feel it but it doesn't make any noise.

I had the TSB done on January 8th, and have just over 1000 miles on it. No issues yet but not holding my breath.

It is a new part number. However, I do not know what the changes are if any.

Can't speak on others but the change seems to be a more precise driveshaft. All I could find was less balance weights on the new driveshaft compared to the original.
