TFL’s RHO Road Trip Review - Maybe the RHO doesn’t suck?

I honestly think I'd go ZR2 and slap a blower on it before i went RHO. Or I'd go HD diesel Ram/Chevy or PWagon. Or I'd go Hummer EV if all those were extinct too lol. I cant stand that 6 or 4-banger sound especially coming from a full size truck. If it's a Z or GTR fine but not a fullsize man's rig IMO
The Chevy Silverado 2500 ZR2 with the gas motor is kind of interesting.

I wish they would have said if they had a head wind or tail or side or no wind. It makes a huge difference

I think they were heading west from Colorado because they hit Arizona. That is actually southwest. Winds typically are out of the west 99.125589% of the time. So I'm 99.125589% they had a headwind. Which means the RHO gets 99.125589% worse MPG than that of the TRX. if you need to ask about my math. Then you should not consider the RHO as it is 99.125589 % more thirsty especially in a headwind.

Enjoy!

Says the guy who gets better than 14 mpg in the TRX which is 99.125589% unlikely unless he’s doing 55 mph downhill with a tailwind on his roadtrips which is much much slower than 99.125589% of TRX owners

The RHO is already running like 28 pounds of boost, not sure how much more you can push the 3.0 internals. The RHO is a cool truck, but only two issues, the TRX (hellcat) and Raptor R exist (predator). 14.5-15 mpg that’s not very impressive. Those little turbos are working hard to move 6k pounds.
💯

There are already two different stock trucks with melted cats on the RHO forum, and virtually no one has even taken delivery yet.

People can talk all day about how amazing it could be with a tune but you’d be insane to void warranty so quickly on something as unproven as this. Don’t think many outside of the YouTube clickbait world will be taking that chance anytime soon. And besides, the RHO with that piggyback tuner is still slower than a stock TRX. I guess I don’t get it…

It’s a 6300Lb+ truck with a undersquare engine that’s already pushing it @ 28psi on pump gas… I wouldn’t be surprised to see these RHO’s dyno around 400WHP with COT enabled.

I live in Iowa and the prevailing wind are out of the west but not 99.125589% of the time. My TRX wouldn't get 14.5 mpg at 75 mph. I've gotten 14 once at 70 mph, no wind and 70 degrees. So, not better than the RHO.

Tough crowd around here. My point was that I highly doubt the RHO gets any better MPG's than a TRX. Why is everyone concerned about MPG anyways? I didn't buy the TRX to save gas. I bought it to be safe, comfortable and the loudest truck around. For what it is I have been surprised it gets the MPG I have been getting. 80+ not 55.

The RHO has 2 less cylinders and what 200 less HP. Look around to see what the hurricane TT3.0 I6 gets for mpg in the Grand Wagoneer. You will find it is not much better than what the Hemi was getting. Advertised is typically 2mph higher than real world.

That real world is more in line with what the RHO is compared to the TRX. Minus the fun factor points in the RHO. You get what you paid for. 99.125589% guaranteed 🤣

Biggest problem is they need to knock about 20k off the price to make it appealing, as it sits now the MSRP of a loaded RHO is more than I paid for my fully loaded TRX.

Other than not having the soul stirring sound of a V8 Hellcat, the RHO is no slouch. Also, its cheap to get horsepower from turbos.

Dunno if anyone saw this claiming to run low 4s in the 0-60 with a tune. Of course, they're using the onboard timer which says I'm running high 3s in a TRX:

Edit - With some digging, I'm seeing that the non-RHO with the HO trim (e.g., a Tungsten) are about as quick. Motortrend tested a Tungsten and got 4.4 to 0-60 and 13.0s 1/4 mile. That's quick and faster than all but the Raptor R and TRX. Add a tune to a Tungsten and you're near-as-makes-no-difference fast as a Raptor R and TRX.

Yep, pretty quick for a little I6, but the jury is still out on whether it's cheap HP or not. Adding 100+ HP to that platform might be the tipping point for the motor and/or transmission. Would you be willing to risk the warranty for a $700 tune? It will still sound like shit, but that's somewhat subjective...not on this forum though. 🤣

I am 99.125589% sure I agree with you.

I dont know if this effects the RHO, but the Hurricane powered Grand Wagoneers are dropping like flies. Due to a thermostat related issue.

Remember it only has 1500 miles on it motor isn’t even broken in yet. MPG should get a little better after 5-6000 miles probably looking at 15-16 on the highway

I don’t care if it gets 25-26, I am out. Haha. You sure as shit don’t buy a truck like this for mpg or one that sounds like a bmw. But hey, to each their own and hope the hurricane treats those folks well. The whine and exhaust make the TRX in my opinion.
