I’ve checked the forum and couldn’t find anything (maybe I’m slow or my brain crapped out from the stroke). What is everyone experience purchasing out of state? I’ve compared to where I live (Illinois) and see some 10-15k less.

If you can buy from one of the big dealers on the forum you'll get huge discounts below MSRP. Many of us, or most of us, on the forum have done so and had very good experiences.

Koons, Mark Dodge, Dan Cummins, Granger Motors are the 4 that immediately come to mind. I ordered through DC in Kentucky and ended up paying 12k under sticker and had a great experience. With these dealers, below MSRP/invoice forum discounts are for customer ordered vehicles only. Not dealer stock orders. But ‘23 order banks are closed, ‘24 not open yet and looking like it could be allocation based. So you may have missed the boat on custom order discounts.

Also from IL. Peoria area.

Sam Leman in Morton was willing to go 5 under msrp on order. We never discussed any additional fees or price protection because I was 9 under msrp from the forum dealers. I couldn't catch them with any on the lot, so I'm not sure what their prices were on those. Based on their used inventory, I'm guessing over msrp.

Due to my location, I looked into Granger and Dan Cummins. In November 2022, their pricing was very close to each other. Dan Cummins worked out to be about $300 cheaper once I factored in all fees and gas for travel. Both were very responsive and great to work with before I ordered.

I ended up choosing Granger mostly because they were closer. Partly because they also offered a good deal on a MaxCare warranty. Granger also requires you to do your own tax and title work. For me, that was a plus. For some, it may be a minus. At the time of deliver, my sale price was over 12 under msrp. Price protection is important.

Working with our forum dealers is a dream compared to a traditional purchase. I was in the dealer office just long enough to sign the odometer paperwork and give them a check. The rest of the time was checking out the truck, going through the required walk-through of features, and putting on my mud flaps.

Back in IL, it was way easier than I expected. Went online to the IL SOS to print title and registration paperwork. Wrote 1 check for registration, one for tax. Went to SOS office, gave them the IL paperwork, both checks, transit title from IA, and copy of purchase agreement. Walked out with plates 10 minutes later.

Thanks for this. I’ve never purchased out of state so this experience is new to me.

I haven’t purchased a vehicle here in Oregon in over 20 years. Found it much cheaper out of state even after paying for transport. I got my TRX from Granger last May and it was a very smooth transaction.

Can't even remember the last vehicle I didn't buy out of state. Partially because it's been quite a few purchases since.

The name granger comes up a lot. Is that the dealership in Iowa?

I live in the Chicago area, and purchased from Mark Dodge (Saint Charles, LA). The best experience ever. Transaction was smooth as silk. $12K under MSRP.They shipped it to me for $900 or so.

This was probably the 5th-6th vehicle I've bought out of state. No issues with any of them, but Mark Dodge was there throughout the process and answered the second I had a question.

Buying out of state occurs so often, the dealerships (on the forum) have figured out all issues and it makes for a smooth transaction. Personally I like to fly out and inspect the vehicle myself (and its sometimes required by the dealership), then decide if I will drive it home or hire someone like Reliable Carriers to transport it home for me.

I found a really nice C8 convertible here in CO, buying it and shipping it to the FL house. Cost is about $1500.
