Figured I’d share what’s going on with my brand-new 2027 TRX and see if anyone else starts running into the same issue.
I first noticed something wasn’t right at around 50 miles. Every once in a while, the truck would crank way longer than it should before starting. A couple of times I actually had to give it some gas to get it to fire up.
It kept happening, so on September 8 I dropped it off at a Ram dealer here in Colorado. The truck had 985 miles on it at that point. They went through the electrical side of things and then tested the fuel pressure. They found that the system is losing fuel pressure and determined that the fuel pump/module is bad and needs to be replaced. The weird thing is that I’ve never had a check-engine light or any other warning lights. Now the bigger problem is actually getting a fuel pump. The truck has officially been put into VOR (Vehicle Off Road) status, and apparently there are no replacement fuel pumps available anywhere in the dealer network across the country.
The dealer has been working with Stellantis/Ram corporate trying to locate one. I also opened a case with Ram Customer Care and asked to have it escalated. Customer Care told me they put a request directly into the manufacturer for the part on September 11 and were told they should hear something back within five business days. As of September 15, there’s still no pump allocated to my truck, no ship date, and no real ETA.
Originally, they told me the most likely scenario was that I’d have the truck back in 2–4 weeks, but right now that seems like more of a guess since they still don’t know when they can actually get the part. Another strange part of this is that the service director told me their system seems to show the fuel pump being the same as other Ram 1500s. But he thinks there may actually be something different about the TRX pump and doesn’t feel comfortable putting another Ram 1500 pump in it unless they know for sure it’s correct. I even asked if they could pull a pump out of another new Ram they have on the lot and then replace that one whenever the new pump comes in. They weren’t willing to do that, which I understand, especially if there’s any question about whether the pumps are actually identical. So basically, my brand-new 2027 TRX is sitting at a dealership in Colorado, VOR, waiting for a fuel pump that Stellantis currently can’t give me an ETA on.
