Any one have issues backing their truck up an incline with a trailer attached?

I was towing my ~7000lb travel trailer this past weekend and tried backing into my campsite in Norris Lake, TN. The road directly in front of the campsite was pretty steep at about 9-10degree. A lot of throttle input required to even get the truck/trailer to back up a few feet and then it felt like the truck hit a torque cut or something. Transmission temps got to 255F so I stopped trying. Luckily they were able to find another campsite for us.

I thought about using 4Low, but the road was paved and didn’t want the drivetrain to bind up and end up breaking something.

Called RamCares and they were of no help as there isn’t a max incline spec for towing in reverse, etc.

My previous truck, an ‘18 Raptor, had no issues backing into campsites on an incline (although I did have to put in 4auto).

I've had my truck slam on the brakes while trying to back up a hill, so I've turned off the automatic braking for the rear of the truck. No issues with my camper hooked up, but I've not backed it up an incline.

What it probably is: the torque converter lock up mapping in reverse is likely to be non existent.

Where as the TC lock map for the forward gears is lower rom/throttle input/torque ordered.

They probably did not take into account not just the weight involved but the leverage towing produces, for reversing steep gradients.

Yeh, forgot to mention that the rear AEB was turned off as well.

Thanks for the response. I agree, wonder if nonTRX Ram 1500 owners have a similar issue?

Seems like a miss on Ram’s part…
