Amazon (flame on) purchase. Has a sticker as opposed to printing on the filter. Box looks legit. Stamping on the top of the filter is the number 22 which i believe is the bypass valve pressure.

What do you think?

Unless they changed the filter recently, thats probably a fake. The MO-041 filters I have seen recently (and a long time ago) have six holes around the center hole.

If you look here, you'll see some pictures of a genuine MO-041 filter in the first post.

Supposedly they changed suppliers a while back. Still, another example I saw also had different part numbers on the filter and the box.

Between that and it being from Amazon I wouldn't use that filter. Okay, maybe on somebody else's car.

I received six from Napa a couple weeks ago and they have six holes and the markings are painted on.

what seller on amazon? whenever buying parts that "matter" oil filters for example we only buy from the actual mopar store or motorcraft store etc..

Thanks for posting, first one I’ve seen like this. The “22” is the thread size, 22mm x 1.5.

It looks absolutely nothing like the original but the “AB” revision listed on the box (but not the sticker incidentally) could account for that difference. Certainly a came out of a different plant and has completely different design. Apparently “made in USA” now based on the label.

Could be legit, could be outright fake. Until I can get my mitts on one from an actual dealer and cut it up and maybe even have some testing run we won’t know much about it. Even if real it may not have the qualities that made the original very good and they may not be worth chasing (or overpaying for). The urge to cost cut is as strong with filters as it is with any other parts.

And there are no shortages of great alternative options you can get locally that aren’t so dubious, so I’d probably shelve it for a bit…

You might find my thread on this filter helpful. Mine was proved legit.

If I were to bet on a fake, it would be the exact one you shared.

Maybe they changed something in the manufacturing process but... Yeah

Was able to find more pics of a “new” MO-041 on eBay that showed the base plate at a better angle for me. I’m starting to suspect Mopar indeed gave Wix the boot, and you have a legitimate, Puraltor-made cousin to the MO-899. The base-end bypass is specific to these Mopar filters (and the Motorcraft which is also related).

Questions still remain. Did they just paint the same exact MO-899 filter white and apply an “SRT” tax? Or are there media enhancements, higher bypass pressure, thicker can, etc like the original MO-041.

As we know, the appeal of the original MO-041 was its tank-like construction. And the cynic in me has doubts that all of those properties would or could be carried over to this Purolator design. But time for me to get one (and another 899) and take a closer look…

White will also be heavier.

And check the inside through the hole. 041 was also different.

But if you open them all will be clear.
