Is it normal for a tire shop to test drive your vehicle after putting tires on?

When i worked at firestone in 99-02 we test drove anything a wheel was pulled off. Even a tire rotation. Just a mile or two.

1500 insurance claims in one year, or 5 claims per day? That is insane, I would stay away from them like the plague!
Test driving it does what, gives the loose lugs a chance to ream out your wheels and destroy the studs? From a RISK standpoint, they are taking far more risks by driving the customers car on a public road! If the wheels and hubs are clean, no lube on the threads, tighten/snug the lugs in the correct pattern, drop the car, torque them, quick recheck and be done. Retorque them after a 1 or 2 hundred miles.

I have a close friend who manages a Discount Tire store, no "test drives" they have zero insurance claims due to loose lug nuts. Wheels destroyed by the mounting guy and mounting machine, well that is a different story!
That 1500 claims was the entire corporation, not just one location. The location that I go to actually had none for years. It was a corporate decision.

Okay, it read like it was one shop! Which would have been nutz!!!!!

I make it a point to tell the guys at any shop not to do anything more than I am asking for, if it’s tires just change the tires and give me the keys back. No car wash needed, no checking of other fluids, etc.

I got my stock swapped for Toyo OC AT3's.

Is it normal they would take it for a test drive to "test the tires" ?
Yes, if they need to reset the tire pressure gauge. I’m sure the Trx does it automatically, but with my suburban you have to drive it for a few miles. Maybe they didn’t know or just wanted to be on the safe side… I figure no harm no foul….

I am the same way, if they will not let me watch their every move I will not do business with them.
The chances of them making a mistake will increase with you staring at them through the window or standing outside watching like that. Find a tire shop you trust. I own a repair shop, been a technician 33 years and my customers don't stand there and watch because they trust me and my shop. I use a local les schwab and I drop my stuff off, I trust them. It's normal to take a drive around the block after new tires, at least around here anyway.

Do you own a Super Truck? Then yes, of course they wanted to "test drive" it! LOL
I put mine in valet mode and grin if they ask to test drive

I'm sure they loved the 11.9 1/4 mile time...

You should ask that 18 YR. old tech what he thought of YOUR TRX's handling at 118 mph, and what his tictok page is so you can watch it... 🤣

Seriously... Did you really just leave your truck there unattended and let them drive it??? Really?? Wow... 😳

Never in my life has a tire shop driven my vehicle except to park it for me out of the work area and I have bought about 6 sets of new tires for non commercial vehicles that I can recall off the top of my head.

The vibration excuse is bullshit a good tire shop has a balancer. If you have vibration you have a spark plug, brake, steering dampener, or mount issue after a new set of balanced tires

That’s the smart thing to do for sure. I used to own a Scat Pack but it was a stick so most tire shops couldn’t even pull it in. No joke. They would ask me to pull it and out for them. Hahaha.
