How many miles for first oil change?

You think the manual would tell you to change oil early if engineers thought there would be a benefit? Manufacturers all tell you today to wait until the oil life gets to a certain percentage and vehicle displays need for an oil change. Follow the maintenance schedule. No first 500 mi oil change after break in. Schedule an early oil change at dealer and they will tell you it’s way too early. Heard an advisor tell a guy that last week when I was in for service. He has new Hellcat Charger. Advisor told the guy he would have it changed for him but it would be an unnecessary expense since it was too early.
And just like that BOOOOOOM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The great oil debate is BACK ON !!!!!!

I changed it at 500 miles, looking for anything "strange" in the bottom of the pan. All looked normal so I will likely change it again at 3500, again looking for large metal particles, etc. Then every 5000.
Both the first changes are for MY edification, nothing more. Flame one ! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

No idea why something like this would be a debate. Oil is cheap, do it as often as your little heart desires or don't, totally up to you. 🤷‍♂️
Right? Other peoples oil changing intervals and habits sure light off a fire storm!
Before the internet..........no one ever said shit about my oil change habits! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I wouldn’t put Pennzoil in my lawnmower..
Yup, the people that designed the engine, and have to back a warranty, are really dumb. You are way smarter. Especially with all the sound reasoning you provided.

I’ve seen 1st hand what cheap oil does and how it brakes down before 5,000 miles. So ya,I’m smarter than some of your so-called engineers with no real life experience.

I also did my first oil change low miles I did engine oil at 1500 and again at 7000 I also changed transfer case and diff oils at 7000 just a fyi the transfer case was a bit low, and a number of people have reported same thing. Oil is cheap compared to the cost of this truck

Used it for years in my Tacomas with excellent oil analysis results every time. I have no reason not to trust it.
Recommended by designers, that have to back a warranty, and now actual analysis that proves the point? I don't know man, Chevelle guy says it's no good, I'm switching immediately!

If only they were in charge. Then we wouldn’t see an oil change interval allowing 5% fuel dilution either. And that’s with another 25% on the OLM (or 1000 miles according to the book).

My only point is, don’t assume the manufacturer has your best interests at hand when establishing maintenance intervals. They don’t want to build lemons, but vehicles that last forever aren’t something they are going for either.
Margins much better on service, than sale. People would not return to brand if unreliable, or purchase in the first place if reading about unreliability. Annnnnywho.

I think I can clear things up for everyone.

Whatever anyone does, DO NOT trust the manual from the designers of the vehicle that have to back your warranty, or go by the oil change indicator, these are both FAKE NEWS. What you want to do, is get on a forum, and hook up with a guy like Chevelle guy, who really knows what he's talking about. Lastly, the company benefits greatly from promoting super crappy oil, and telling you to change it way less often than what it should be done. The increase in repairs, and bad reputation somehow benefits them, as you can learn from the onthereel genius.
I think that sums it up! EXTREME SARCASM ALERT! 👆

This reply is for education purposes only. It is not to be mean. Oil does not break down with normal operation. It becomes less efficient with a build up of contaminants. Its why the recycled oil market is a thing. If you wanted you could by a machine to filter your oil and reuse it over and over. What can break down are additives like detergents. You can like what oil you want for what ever reason you want. If oil is ineffective before 5000 miles the issue is not the oil.

Wow, they are going to be in tough shape then since they are all pushing EVs that require virtually no service. I guess the only consistent line between ICE and EV is planned obsolescence.

The thing that obviously gets lost on you and makes you so hostile is that myself and some others have different expectations of “service life” than you. And certainly a different idea than the manufacturer.

Whether I keep it or not, I look at anything less than 200k a failure. And they aren’t warrantying it for that long, so it’s on me. My goals require different maintenance than someone who will kick it down the road in 2 years. There’s no wrong or right goal, but there are best practices for each.

Finally, the maintenance guide is just that, a guide. Not a Bible. If you actually read the post you quoted, you would see a very good reason to stop treating it like one.

H8Demon I love how these threads get you so amped my man. Keep fighting the good fight hoss. 👌

Just my two cents... I own a 2019 Corvette ZR1, 775 hp. Chevy requires an oil change at 1000 miles that they pay for. Why would they Dom this if theynthought a high performance engine didn't need nit?!?!?
I brought my TRX to the dealer for an oil change ay 2100 miles.. They found coolant in the pan that needs to be dropped to changed the oil... Ended up being a leaking head gasket that I would never have discovered except for the early old change...
BTW I have been without my TRX for a month + waiting for parts and a service window...
A good oil change, by you or the dealer or the local shop looks for things like tis...the more often the truck is inspected, the better
