Salesperson let me (with her) test drive a new, TRX. I drove it down the interstate with the cruise on at 80 mph for about 10 miles. I didn't know what the break in period was until I joined this forum.

I'm thinking of buying this truck, and my wife and I are headed down later today to take another look; since she wasn't with me the first trip.

Should I be concerned now that the break in period wasn't followed? Or am I being to anal? I'm leaning toward the latter. lol As the flip side is, I believe there was already about 12 miles on the truck when I got in it. So who knows what happened in those first 15 miles.

I did not follow any break-in period processes. I just drove it normally how I would drive any vehicle. the engines on these like many others have already been dyno'ed from the factory. but everybody has opinions about this stuff so just do whatever feels good for you.

Mind you, I didn't mash on it or anything, I just drove it "normally" without thinking about specific speeds or revs and what not.

For what it’s worth- I took delivery of a new 23 off the transport truck and it had 11 miles on it. That’s usually from the plant dyno and travel to and from transport stations. So you may very well have been the first person to drive it on the road.

The official break in “rules” have been listed in many different parts of this forum and it seems like you have stumbled on them from your post. I always stick to them strictly. Mostly because those are the engineers and manufacturers recommendations. Could you be fine? Sure.

If there was ever a mechanical failure and they pulled the datalog from the computer to see that it had gone 80mph during first 20 or so miles… you could potentially just claim it was during the dealership sales attempts and test drives which would be backed up. Not 100% sure tho

Yup just be sure they note mileage when you actually bought the truck, anything before that is on them for sure, some yahoo gets in and does 10 launches as soon as its out of sight, pulls it to redline, etc how would you know unless they scan the things datalog

Buy with confidence. As long as you weren't launching it and running to redline, 80mph at ~2000rpm won't do anything bad to the engine or drivetrain.

Personally I stick to the break in recommendations pretty closely, however I highly doubt anything is hurt on the truck with only twelve miles on it. I don't think there is any issue to be concerned about. My truck had sixteen miles on it when I got it as all have some mileage on them. It has a warranty, if you like the truck buy it, you won't be disappointed.

I have never strictly followed any break in procedure on any of my car and all were tuned after I purchased them besides the TRX.

I just don't let it run at a constant RPM and I drive it until it's fully up to temperature with no short runs.

I have never seen any issues.

It will be fine
