HELP!…What size is the starter cable? Does it have multiple wires in the loop to the starter?

Possible rodent ate at the wire?!?

Just discovered it.

Is it possible just to cut out the damaged wire and replace it with fresh wire without having to replace the whole loom?!

That sucks sorry man!

I would think 2/0 would be a safe bet.
Below is the full wiring setup, I would also assume if you are only replacing the single wire then buying the whole loom is a waste.

Just ordered the parts needed to replace the wire. 60$ vs 300$ plus labor. It was a no brainer. Just have to pull back the insulation more to expose more of the wire so I can cut/strip/ attach the new line and lug connector.

Can I use a standard but connector to join the two wire together for the starter?

I’m getting mixed information. Some say you can while others say you can’t due to the amps.

I was going to use a mechanical connector but now see the amps rating is well below 400amps. 165amps to be exact

I’m now considering copper split bolt

Any advice on joining the starter cables together safely?

I removed the insulator; can’t find any where what wire size it is. I’m thinking it’s 2/0?

Looks like 0. If its corroded that bad then it will probably be the same in the harness from capillarity (water riding through the gaps further corroding it). I would honestly replace it with a sealed one

Do you suggest a whole new harness or separating the starter wire from the loom then wiring in a whole new one?

Technically just needs the large gauge wire but unsure if its one piece or a “smart” cable with sensor attached. Could just leave it in “cut it back” though and add one in its place.
