I just started hearing a sound under the hood that sounded like a failing water pump but it seemed a little quieter than some of the videos posted here on this same issue. I got out a stethoscope and I pin pointed the loudest point. Looking at the pic, it’s loudest here at the green arrow which I think is the thermostat housing. You can still hear it though where the red arrow is pointing. It’s about 3 times as loud at the green arrow. The problem has to be the water pump though right?

I would pull the belt and check for any roughness or looseness in the pump bearing and or in any idler pulleys.
Generally, when the WP bearing starts to make noise the pump will be leaking a bit. Cheers !

I just replaced my water pump. They will charge you over $900 just for the water pump then hit you for labor.....so prepare yourself for an "oh shit" moment when you get the bill.

The water pump is covered by the powertrain warranty, so if you're still under that, the dealer should not charge you anything. Otherwise, its a lot of things to remove to get it out, and dealers are not known for cheap parts or labor.

If you're out of warranty, I'd suggest having a trusted/well reviewed performance shop do it instead.

Did you do it yourself? If yes, how long did it take, if no what did they charge you for the labor?

I had the radiator replaced under warranty, the water pump failed some test they give the water pump when replacing the radiator. The work was covered under warranty. I did see the parts and labor cost on the ticket.

Pump was $982
Total labor for pump and radiator was $1943
100% warranty coverage so no cost to me other than the pain and suffering from them keeping the truck for 2 days.

Pump is $650 online shipped (after core charge), so you paid full retail plus labor?

Okay, it was warranty. That makes more sense.
Most dealers will at least give you jobber cost on the parts.

When it comes to the high prices: a single plastic push pin for the plastic over the radiator cost $13 EACH at the parts counter. I found the exact pin online with matching part number #6508863-AA for $7.99 for a 50 pack ($0.16 each). The mark-up is insane.

Can’t find a leak but there is a little looseness. I can wobble it about a millimeter. No concerning noises coming from anywhere else. It’s just right there I think. I have 75k more miles and 4 years left on the extended warranty so at least I don’t have to pay for it. I got 52k out of this one.

If it was out of warranty I’d probably attempt it. It looks like you gotta just remove the intake and then you’d have good access.

This is from my work order when they replaced the radiator and water pump. I didn't see any reference to removing the intake to replace the water pump. My definition of intake is whatever is on top of the motor between the heads. If your definition of intake is from the throttle body to the air filter, then that definitely needs to be removed.

I’m not sure you’d have to remove it but I think I would just to make things easier.

My water pump went out after 10k miles. Dealership replaced it no questions asked and without cost due to factory warranty in my first 18 months of ownership. These water pumps are the same as on the standard 1500 so they’re bound to fail.

Should be zero wobble and tight. WP needs to be swapped out.
Here is a video with Coolio swapping out his HC water pump, not great step by step......but it does not look too tough and should be easier on the TRX with more wiggle room around the radiator and WP.
Remember the age old saying: "What Coolio can do, you can do!"
