Got 4WD system overheat, should keep driving?

Thanks so much guys all of your responses are really helpful. I will keep update once I get to the dealer tmr.
One more thing just to put your mind at ease. The truck isn’t going to blow up, and I never felt the “performance reduced”. It’s definitely an alarming experience when you hear the ding and see the warning.

finally after go to the dealer for 3 times they agreed to order a new transfer case! Went to a few small dealers as well but they just can’t find out the problem since there is only a overheated error code and said the truck is still DRIVABLE

My truck got this message the 1st time I towed with it. Dealer said fluid was ok and replaced the motor on the transfer case. No issues since. There's a thread up here where one guy took the transfer case motor apart and found why they were having issues and overheating. No need to replace whole transfer case unless you smoked the clutches.

Yes the temp sensor is in the motor.

Its overkill but should solve the problem. Only takes a few hrs to swap trans case.

Alright it’s under warranty anyway. Thanks for all the info!

The problem with the guy who took apart the transfer case motor to fix the problem is that after his fix worked he had Ram install a new motor and once again the motor failed. So he trimmed the transfer case motor a 2nd time.

Whereas in my case Ram changed out the transfer case and the motor has worked fine for the last 30k miles. The point is that sometimes the do it yourself guys ain’t doing it right.

Edit: I am glad that they are changing out the transfer case. Hopefully it resolves the issue entirely.

So the dealer did order a new transfer case for me but I just saw the part number is CH5038870-AD, after I searched for it the browser gave me the info of 48-11 transfer case which is not the 48-13 for trx. Is there a misunderstanding or the dealer really ordered the wrong parts? Hope they didn’t put the wrong transfer case on….

I think this is a sign to go to another dealer. That is for the regular DT1500. The TRX requires the BorgWarner 48-13 due to its dedicated full time active 4x4 system.

The parts descriptions on the dealer sites can be screwy. It does say 48-11 but it also says “4WD Mode Only” and is only listed for TRX 2021-2023. I don’t think they are ordering the wrong part.
