Extended Warranty

Soooo, skimmed these warranty threads a while back and didn't see any details on the fine print....went digging and was able to get my hands on the Ts&Cs (attached). A few things stood out to me which I've listed below. Thoughts on this? Perhaps I'm being overly analytical about it, but $5k for a warranty isn't chump change.

  1. Page 1, bolded paragraph in all CAPS beginning with "IMPORTANT!" -- there is a sentence in there "DEALERS CANNOT AUTHORIZE REPAIRS UNDER THIS PLAN".
    1. Has anyone actually used the MOPAR MAX CARE plan at a CDJR/STELANTIS dealership other than the one they bought it from? Just trying to make sure there isn't any hassle here.
  2. Same bolded all CAPS paragraph as number 1, states "Authorized repairs will be made using remanufactured parts. If remanufactured parts are not available, the Dealer will use new parts."
    1. Definitely something to be aware of and not something I'm overly excited about. Replacing an engine, supercharger etc. with a used one?
  3. Page 2, second to last paragraph beginning with "NOT ELIGIBLE", states vehicles with "severe off-road use" are non eligible.
    1. The usage of "severe" sounds very arbitrary. Anyone have experience with this? Seems like an out card if a dealership finds signs of dirt/mud anywhere they could refuse warranty.
    2. Mentioned again in the exclusions section starting on page 7, item #5, section "K" --> "damage incurred by off-road use"
  4. Continuing in the exclusions section starting on page 7:
    1. Item #5, section "L" - "water intrusions/leaks" --> so warranty doesn't cover water leaks through windows/sunroofs etc? yikes
    2. Item #18 -- all exhaust components including CATS are not covered.
    3. Page 8, Item #21 -- interior trim items, including dashboard, door handles, knobs/buttons, arm rests and headliner are not covered.

1. Yes, it shows up on your VIN at every dealership in the country. Only STLA can authorize the dealer to make covered repairs, this is standard, meaning dealer doesn't fix and then request reimbursement, they diagnose and submit a request for repair, STLA analyzes this and authorizes, asks for more info or denies based on evidence and diagnosis submitted.

2. Mostly new parts are used in repairs, I've never actually seen remanufactured parts installed on any of my MaxCare warranty repairs on my other vehicles but it could happen I suppose.

3. Standard warranty language based on intended vehicle use design. We have seen 1 instance of a member here who was denied suspension mount warranty due to claimed off-road abuse. Not sure what his final resolution was yet but STLA would be hard pressed to claim these trucks aren't designed for heavy off-road use if a claim for repair was made in arbitration or court. Yes that would be a pain in the ass but as far as I can tell even with Jeep denials for abuse are rare.*

4. Exhaust is covered by a separate emissions equipment warranty. Trim, bulbs and the rest are considered wear items though if a manufacturing defect is found (as opposed to usage wear) you would likely be covered.

*Unless you've installed O'Reilly air filters...

Thanks for the thorough response! Thoughts on water leaks?

Anyways, just wanted to throw this information out here and get people's takes on it. Appreciate the discussion....helps people to be informed when looking in to these.

I'd like to opine but since I've never had an issue with one of my FCA sunroofs or used the warranty for a water issue I'll refrain from too much speculation. Just off the cuff though, I'd assume it would sort of be like the other wear items, if it's a defect (like the wind noise and the seal that some have reported) I'd think it would likely get fixed, if it's just trim, weather-stripping or seals wearing out you'd likely be responsible for replacement.

Before staring a new thread, does anyone know if swapping wheels and tires to mount 37s would void MaxCare? I also might be doing suspension upgrades at some point, I assume that would void the shocks but would they void the entire warranty based off that? I really like the idea of the warranty but would like to increase its on and off road performance.

I asked Mark Dodge if they would match the $50 over that Granger was doing and they said yes. So I added the Mopar Maxcare to my purchase through them.
So what was the cost of the extended warranty?

Dealer also pushed a 3rd party extended warranty as well, AWS. It was for 10 years 100k miles compared to the 8 year Mopar one and it was cheaper. I’ll be purchasing the wheel and tire and auto appearance care plus warranties from granger. I like the mopar wheel and tire warranty because it covers aftermarket wheels and tires as well!
I have ordered my TRX from Granger, just waiting for it to arrive. So, all this information on Max Care is definitely helpful. The Wheel/Tire/Appearance care warranty is new to me. How does that one work?

+1... What was the cost of the Max Care warranty through Mark Dodge and who did you work with? I ordered from Mark Dodge as well and would like to know ahead of time. Thank you!

Also interested to hear how much the mopar MC warranty is costing you guys.

Or look at my earlier post in this thread for another way to check.

I would recommend the Mopar MaxCare and buy it through Granger Motors. They have the best price on Mopar extended warranties.
I agree with this and that is what i did. I purchased mine from Granger
