Does a Trx keep up with a Raptor off road?

Having owned 4 Raptors (2) of Gen 1 and (2) of Gen 2 - I would say that the factory suspension on the Raptors give it a slight edge. Especially on the 2nd Generation examples. I just don't feel like the TRX suspension is as nicely tuned or responsive.
Still all comes down to driver(y)

I don’t think the Raptor can hang with a TRX. I just smoked this guy with my stock V6 4Runner.

If you can stand to listen to him. He runs them both. Raptor is faster on the lap. Best video I can find of somebody running the trx semi baja style.

He’s a horrible driver but it makes sense the raptor would be faster for him. The raptor enables novice drivers while the TRX requires experience to drive it

Except he didn’t run the TRX in auto because he wanted to make it fair. If you ran them both in their best modes for the track, that is when it’s fair. That is how you compare two vehicles to each other. You don’t handicap one to make it more fair. Sorry if the other vehicle doesn’t offer settings that are more desirable. I say run them both on their best modes. If that’s auto for TRX and 4 hi for the Raptor or 2 hi for the Raptor and 4 hi for the TRX…..whatever the truck performs best in, run it in that mode and compare the two. Rant off. Lol

I appreciate the share, but I have to comment, this driver/edit is not a great comparison. Analyzing racing/performance driving for a living (when I'm not the one racing myself), he left SECONDS, possibly 10+ in the TRX lap.

Probably due to platform and resistance to "carve" in the corner without proper loading the front axle. Yet if a driver is not comfortable with slip angle, this level of load and dynamic is never achieved. Its the same in tarmac situations as well. I saw almost no opposite lock from the driver, on the dirt, ever......

It is difficult for drivers with a limited skill set to "adapt" to the machine and it's strengths underneath them. It happens the most with Porsche 911's, tons of them around and enthusiasts that love them, and 90+% cannot drive them

Doesn't matter to me because I do zero baja offroad driving. I do 99% on-road driving and 1% "overlanding" style offroad driving. A stock F150 or Ram 1500 will do all the offroad driving I need. But on-road, I want that 700hp.
That’s the same for me. There isn’t a lot of desert racing going on in Western Montana. If I lived in Arizona (or somewhere with a lot of sand dunes) I may have kept the Raptor.

My buddy showed me some videos he took in Glamis over new years and they were all of the same TRX trolling Raptors in the dunes. He would let the Raptor get going then he would blow past them. Half of the videos the Raptors didn't make it to the top of the dune and the TRX had to let off so they didn't launch off of the top. I like Raptors and think they are cool but it looked to me like the TRX wins the trophy in the dunes.

Honestly what we need is 4-5 TRX’s to run side by side with 4-5 Raptors in some sort of fashion like the guys who do the Baja Raptor Run. That will tell us everything we need to know about how the Raptor and TRX compare when in the hands of average drivers.

Something like this:

Can the Trex keep up or surpass the old to new raptors.

If by "keep up" you mean not press so hard on the TRX's accelerator and let the Raptor catch back up, then.. . .

. . yes.

:ROFLMAO: 🤪 :ROFLMAO:

The line of thinking we have to get away from is "My truck has to be the best at absolutely everything in order to justify me preferring it over another model." I'll be honest--I doubt a TRX would win, skilled driver vs skilled driver, versus a Gen 3 Raptor in the Baja 1000. Ford has had too much more time to refine their suspension tech for that style of offroading. But do I care? Nah. I'm not trying to win the Baja 1000. I'm trying to have a fun daily driver and amble down a dirt road to go to a fishing hole, or cross a friend's rutted out field to go shooting.

I have been a devout raptor fan I have been waiting patiently for AV8 version of the new The current V6 Has to work too hard constantly to try to keep up with what the TRX can do can do almost Effortlessly. I came across the TRX totally by accident a dealer had it in stock and was willing to sell it to me for MSRP that's why I have one but of course the raptor still has no V8 versionIf Ford could ever get their c rap together and get AV8 raptor based on the Coyote motor I would probably buy one.Suspension wise the raptor probably has a slight edge a slight edge fit and finish inside the cab with creature comforts the TRX has a slight advantage the comparability of the 2 trucks is there about equal in all honesty. For me and my family the slightly bigger slightly heavier TRX works very well and we're very happy with it. But neither truck really disappoints.

The only thing I can say is my past Raptors were all SuperCabs and were far superior off road to Raptor SuperCrews...That said, I would not trade my TRX for a current Raptor even if Ford brought back the SuperCab :)

I only have 500 miles on my TRX but excited to test it out in the desert. I know my 18 Raptor was a beast running fast in the desert and handled everything I threw at it so I'm hoping the same for TRX. I'm a novice driver and had multiple instances of coming in too hot on bumps/obstacles but the Raptor suspension soaked it up. I have a feeling with 700 horses, I'll come in hotter more often than not which will take getting used to and driving style adjustments.

I'm impressed. Looks like it did pretty well to me. I wish I could remember who it was but a trophy truck driver posted a short video of their TRX in whoops section and compared it to the trophy truck and said something to the effect while it is not a trophy truck it impressed them at well it did. I think it was on the Mint 400 course.

He does a really good breakdown of the truck examining it and explaining the suspension. I think this is one of the main things in comparing the 2 trucks. I think gen 3 raptors went away from leaf spring rear shocks and something more like what the trx has. I know ford tried to one up the trx with the 37s package and slightly more suspension travel. There is another video I found and it looks like an unbiased comparison between a raptor and a trx in one situation
he’s a ford guy but not your diehard fan boy type. He puts fords to the test and they do break and have lots of quality issues. He has tons of videos about that and his experience with fords “maybe warranty” which is like ram’s “sorta warranty” so you won’t have a better customer satisfaction experience either way if something goes wrong. They both suck. Honestly it comes down to driver capability and what you are comfortable with in each particular off-road situation. I’m not a v6 person so that’s a deal breaker in a full sized truck for me. AWD is a huge selling point as well as a semi truck driveline and special built transmission and transfer case to handle the power. As well as Dana 60 instead of Dana 50. Let’s not forget Ram started with building a custom tire. I’m not knocking Nittos or MT anything like like. People are just used to manufactures putting cheap street tires on off-road trucks, because they have been doing that since they were made of wood. If you really want an off-road Ford don’t knock getting the 7.3 gas and putting a carli pinto on it with a pro charger and your choice of wheels and tires. That is more badass setup than any factory raptor imo. The aftermarket stuff will run you $15k though at least so it’s a trade off

I've watched videos from both of those channels but haven't seen either one of those yet. I started watching the Keep It Dirty one but haven't finished it yet.
