Ceramic film on the sunroof

Hi all. New here. I've had the windshields and panos of my Raptor, X5 and X7 all tinted with no problem. I live in Phoenix and have never had an issue. My installer is super competent and the material I'm using is not ceramic. I use Spectra Photosync IRD. I'm unsure if there's an issue with different manufacturers and material, or if I'm just lucky at this point, but I'm going to add it to my new TRX as well as soon as it's out of the shop. It absolutely keeps the heat from building and is worth the cost in Arizona. I would probably not install SP IRD or tint my Pano in a cooler state.
Appreciate your last sentence. I've been torn on that since I live in PA. In the winter, I actually want that sun to shine in & warm things up, so I will prob pass on the ceramic.

My guy did Llumar residential 10% on my cummins sunroof and I had no issues for 4 years. It felt like it made a difference to me on keeping the cab cool once the AC was running.

So just saw this thread, and didn’t see anyone else point out how ridiculous it is to state that applying film to a pane of glass will make it more likely to shatter….

I put 20% to match the back windows on my sunroof. Should have put 5% on.

I've had my Raptors and TRX trucks pano all done. I live in Texas where today its 106. My installer always told me do not go darker then 15% and always leave the canvas sliding cover open. I do 15% on that and never had an issue. I would not even consider spending the money on it if I had to do lighter then 20%, just would not be noticeable at all.
Who does your tint?

Did ceramic on every window. 70% on windshield and pano roof. No issues and makes a big difference in Colorado as our sun is so intense.

TX Tint (512) 552-7717 by the Airport on 183. Worth the drive from Georgetown. Mitch will take care of you
Been looking to try someone new, my guys work is going downhill

My installer did not mention this issue at all. He actually double tinted the pano (second film he applied is dark 15% I think), but I have to say that I did not really notice a difference on heat. glass gets so hot in the afternoon you cannot touch it and the screen is also very hot. I am in Texas and dealing with 106 degree temps daily. They used ceramic XR plus
I was in the desert here in Ca the other day and it was about 108. My windshield was extremely hot like you mentioned and the temp on the screen registered 133 from the glass just baking. Have you ever seen that with heat where you live? Im just wondering if i put ceramic on my windshield if it would make it worse and potentially cause it to break.

Been running windshield tint for years. It definitely helps! Frequently see 118 on the dash in Texas

10-4. Ive never seen a number that high and when i touched the windshield it was def hot af. So then i got worried if a ceramic tint would make it worse. Never seen over 115 on my dash before that. Idk if it was the angle i was facing the sun or what but it freaked me out forsure.

I have done 70% ceramic tint on my last 6 truck sunroofs...and I live in 'Hells Acres' aka Arizona with zero issues!

Yep it was 111 here yesterday windshield will be fine. I have 62% xpel plus on that and every other vehicle I’ve had no issues. Only my installer has seen panos shatter, it’s rare and only when the cover is closed all the way.

I scheduled my truck to get ceramic tint on the windows and windshield. Was looking to add a 70% ceramic film on the sunroof (what I'm putting on the windshield) to reduce the amount of heat that comes through without the shade. The installer refused as he had a wagoneer sunroof shatter after installing the ceramic film. Anyone had any issues with an install? He said he would do it, but would not be responsible if the glass shattered due to heat trap.
O did also add ceramic tint and the installer also said Don't add anything dark because it will shatter the sunroof

Ended up putting non ceramic film on the sunroof. Installer told me that the ceramic film will trap heat and Is likely the cause of the shattering. Put 15% over the factory 20% on the sunroof. I am happy so far!

this sounds like an old wives tale being passed around some ignorant installers.

1. Why would the sun roof be different from the side windows, or the windshield.

2. Ceramic tint blocks heat, (it does not allow it to pass through the film) it should not absorb heat and hold it against the glass.

3. Older films that were dark, blocked visible light but transferred heat into the glass… this is obviously contrary to why you are paying more for ceramic tint.

Do a Google search, there are a couple hundred articles on this.

He was unwilling to install the ceramic film because there was not a label that the glass was tempered.
