Can we talk tuning for a minute?!

Yea that’s what I said. They don’t install.

What’s your point?
Easy there tiger.

It says installation is additional. Certainly makes it seem like they do installation but just charge "additional" for it.

They don’t do installs. They might recommend a shop in your area.

Not jumping down your throat…you just posted something that was vague and ambiguous so bluntly asked what point you were attempting to get across Tiger.

Well that sucks. If i go to another shop, get it installed, i cant exactly drive it home with a factory tune very safely... Sounds like the truck needs to be parked for a while wherever the install goes down so you can mail them the computer and then wait on the reflash/etc. Def cant go down this road

Curt will send the shop a startup tune. Regardless of who does the work, the PCM needs to be sent out to HPTuners to get unlocked. Takes a couple days. Shop can do that first and then start the build. Usually have the PCM back by the time of the rest of work is done. Load the startup tune from Curt and start the remote tuning process.

Pretty sure it's just overnight. I've read about other shops and it's pretty quick.

Yea ive done the remote tuning game quite a bit on other vehicles. Certainly can get better on road mannerisms that way but i dont really have that much time to be dickin around with data-logging every gear/etc. Uploading log files, downloading updates, etc. It's usually a never-ending saga once you find another hiccup in XX gear when you punch it from a XY roll lol. 3rd kid just landed so just going a few days without my vehicle is going to be super tough as it is. I'd rather just get it all done at 1 place in a tight window of time. So far national speed is the only one that offers all-in-one with a quick, 2 day turnaround (at least that's not 7 states away from me lol)

Yea I hear you on that. Only thing I would say is that it depends on the tuner. Curt is know nationwide for a reason. And personally I have had plenty of tuners do dyno tuning for me and pickup my car only to have to schedule multiple follow ups with them for more street tuning to dial things in. Every car is different and a lot of shops drop in basically boxes tunes that leave a lot to be desired on driveability.

@Corporate_Thug can chime in here with his experience and having Curt clean up another shops tune.

Is Curt a tuner at Dusterhoff?

Oh man, I just went through that but it was damn fun. Not on the TRX but another ride. How about Barth Tuning since they are also in GA and will do the install and tuning for you.

If you have one shop install, and another shop tune, we all know there is a chance a lot of finger pointing could happen if the results are bad. Barth may be your best option....but you should call both and get a good feeling about who you want to use.

So I heard back from Frank at Dusterhoff. Very quick response but I'm slightly disappointed that they're only getting upwards of 100whp on 93 octane and i'd have to go flex to achieve 120-140whp. He also quotes me 5-7 biz days for PCM turnaround which is fundamentally almost 2 work weeks. He also mentioned it takes a couple weeks from start to finish for tuning which i understand since it requires numerous logs on my part and a lot of back & forth tweaking.

Not crazy about the fact that he wouldnt tell me the size of the pulley for the 877 and 937 kits b/c it's their "own proprietary pulley". Also concerning is they dont include colder plugs for either of these kits like most other stage 1 kits do. Overall they may be great tuners but logistically speaking, it kind of sucks plus it seems to be the least amount of hardware out of any of the kits I've seen so far (perhaps that's why they're slightly down on power claims).

In short, to bounce btwn 2 separate shops and drop over $5k down the hole with no chance of breaching 700whp unless i've got a unicorn Rex with less than 15% drivetrain loss lol isn't exactly moving the needle for me this Thurs evening!

So Barth could be a player for sure. Issue is their best 93-octane kit is their "800hp kit". 99% sure that's flywheel hp unless they've got some crazy secret sauce. Pricing on that kit is reasonable ($4300+ tax installed or $4600 + tax with tranny tuning) but again, we're still looking at mid 6s to the wheels when I know others have achieved low to nearly-mid 7s with the same hardware. I again default back to national speed that's seeing 700whp on their stage 1 for around same price...

I am currently running the Ripatuned R-TRX 800 setup in my truck and plan on going to a toy drive at the local dyno. If I get there early enough, I should be able to get a couple of pulls with the TRX. If so, I will post up the results. I will say that the R-TRX 800 kit is an absolute joy to drive and I highly recommend it.

I'd be very curious to know the results. The Ripa kit is definitely on the expensive side so hopefully you get some good #s to match your butt dyno!

My truck ran 10.70 @ 126 mph and made 823hp to the wheels on the 900 kit. Runs 11.40 on the 800 setup. 😎

Whew. I think the only option I have is Baily's. He quoted almost 10k for an 800 package. Jeebus.

That 900 kit is more like a 1000 kit then jeez!! Their 800 kit uses a pretty large pulley compared to some others so Id venture to say its not as impressive on power. But those 1/4 times are still sweet!

I've used High Horse Performance and have been pleased. I respect the fact they prioritize reliability and have always cautioned me if I want to go a certain route that might compromise something. I know Dusterhoff is spoken of very highly as well.
RE High horse performance: Definitely like the pricing and flexibility to add a Litens vs. Metco/etc & add tranny tuning/etc but their advertised dyno results are only 639whp (mind you this was on a rather low OEM 522whp). The fact that they're in Delaware tho is a barrier to entry for me unfortunately

Interesting that Livernois has a 975hp package (claims of +220whp/wtq) on 93 octane for a dam good price installed of $5799. This seems almost too good to be true/possible without switching to a flex fuel option i would think.

How can Dusterhoff be limited to +100whp (without running E) but somehow Livernois is cranking out +220whp on 93?!?
