It was a wild ride, but it's curtains for me.

She's getting picked up Thursday. I got views but no bites on FB Marketplace, listed at $78,700 (I'd have taken $72-75k), tried GMTVin and checked out other similar. Carvana offered the most at $69,400. I know. I'm absolutely bathing in it, but I made my peace with that a long time ago.

If I'd have put in more effort maybe I'd have gotten more on a private sale, but honestly the reason I chose Carvana was because it dawned on me that maybe I should be carrying on private test drives, and practicing my draw from the passenger seat scenarios, etc. I'm sure that's a no brainer for most of you, but it terrified me. Like the panic when I realized I didn't have any security, just TRXing life raw for 2+ years. I got IGLA eventually but I couldn't sleep for the days leading up to the install, posted up at the window all night. I didn't own guns yet, but the truck was the main reason I bought them soon after, and I am so exhausted lol

It really was the most fun I've ever had driving. Not my best life decision, but the absolute. best. toy. I've ever operated. And I learned a lot, much of it useful, and not only about trucks. Time to get real though. Where do I go from here? My husband already has the sensible family car.

I still want a truck. With what I get from Carvana after paying the bank* I'm thinking of buying a well used but well cared for truck, outright. I'm never doing payments again. Suggestions on trucks that are definitely not Dodge Dakotas?

I've been looking at in the $4-7k range, manual trans 90s Rangers, Gen 2 Rams, but probably asking for trouble with manual transmissions. Almost everything comes with issues though, and I plan on doing as much as I can myself and watching lots of tutorials. I'd prob pay as high as $15k for the right one, but after the TRX what is the "right" one? Maybe the way to go is cheap but 'runs and starts' and put the extra money into gaining valuable experience.

What are your best suggestions. Also, the worst.

The last photo of my TRX fob + Rexy keychain. The flintlock replica and Godzilla toy are surprises for my kids and were nearby on my desk and cool.

*almost double what I originally put down for it, so...profit? ;)

I think you’d be ok on test drives

I think you’d be ok on test drives

Probably, but the chance is never zero. I think I'd sus out sketchy buyers or situations before ever meeting but still. Just another thing that makes me nervous. Did I mention the warranty is up?

What was the reason you’re selling?

To get out from under it. Buy land.

And I didn't truly earn it. I'd buy another TRX, but only if I'm able to pay cash, so goodbye forever. I may not be a peasant forever, but I will never be able to defensibly buy another hellcat. I barely got out of this before it destroyed me.

Also there are two other TRXs in town now for the past 6 months. One is white, I think a mechanic in town drives it. But there's another black one, and it's coincidentally another woman. I think she's a fisherman? I see her parked at the docks and drive by my office hauling a trailer with fishing gear. Sexist of me to assume at first she wa a fisherman's wife but I've only ever seen her driving it. Anyway, she seems stuck up and didn't wave back at me and now I want a different truck

Sad to see you go.

A nice cat-eye Chevy will serve you well and is in your price range. Tons of aftermarket support if you get the itch again too.

Funny how the 'circle of life' (finances) can sometimes loop back to missed favorite vehicles. Our TRX fulfilled regret selling our Gen1 Raptor (Whipple supercharger/full ICON + Deaver suspension/etc) years ago. Own the TRX outright but realize life is dynamic and it will always be 'liquid' if $ needed (as was the necessity to sell Gen1 prior). Great memories and adventures currently justify the TRX $$ operating costs - from the 3000 mile roadtrip to get it from Granger Motors (IA) to daily antics, even my daughter's fellow preschoolers motioning for me to 'REV IT' while in carline 🦖 :D

There are lots of 'sensible' and reliable options out there. Options that could also be made 'more fun' in stages. Living in Arizona like @DanZman I'm very partial to rust free used purchases, even exploring higher mileage fleet owned Gov. vehicles.

Rust free life (and later resale value/history). Selling our 19' 4Runner last year- posted it in OR/WA also< - per the advice of two different AZ Toyota up-fitter shops. They had seen their customers even sell to NW Dealerships seeking such SW Desert inventory. Also noted the demand for rust free undercarriages and potentially higher resale if sold again later. Ended up getting $42k from a local Broker within 48hrs. Given👮‍♂️past career - I too didn't want to deal with tire kickers either nor anyone needing to secure financing/related drama and delays. Professional experiences/resulting predisposition to assume the worst in strangers and lack of patience made the Broker $ compromise well worth it. Watch many DYI videos while restoring/upgrading our 2000 Land Cruiser and it's awesome skipping over the common video minutes where they are trying to loosen rusted bolts! LOL. Probably a cool 'FLEX' when it goes up on a Oregon garage lift!

While you're focusing on pickup trucks, mentioned land (towing needs?) - how about a Ford Excursion? Bear with my financial logic. Had a 05' Limited since new as a work vehicle ('War Wagon'). Family owned/higher mile gas (V10) 4wd Excursions are still around - and IMO slowly gaining resale traction like the crescendo I missed with 'OJ' full size Broncos! Remembering when family owned/Eddie Bauer package Broncos filled AutoTrader publications (when the masses wanted four door SUVs too). Even perused 2WD Excursions, with minimal suspension can fit 35's. Endless aftermarket support with the shared SuperDuty platform and the V10 gas engine (used in many Class C motorhomes/etc).

Definitely recommend expanding your search outside Oregon if possible. Taking the time to fully immerse in a platform (make/model), similar forums and perhaps seeing trends as to particular years/powertrains would pay back in dividends! Tundras (powered by the legendary 4.7 V8) generation may fall in your desired price range?

Curious what you end up with.
Regardless sounds like a wise $ financial triage for your family's future! Thanks for sharing!
