I got my 27 a week ago, and one thing I really disliked was the tail lights. On the 21, there was some black, some red and some white, which wasn't terrible. However, the new ones are all red with no style at all to them (my opinion, of course). I had to try to find something to switch it up. As with the 21 when it first came out, there are very few sites that include the 2027 TRX on any of their vehicle lists, so I went looking for tails for the RHO. I did some looking around and there didn't seem a lot of options out there. Most available for the 25+ trucks seem to be for the halogen version only. I came across the AlphaRex Luxx Series. They had the tail lights for the halogen version, but they also had the option of adding a converter harness that would make them work with the stock LED trucks. The only thing I was worried about was the blind spot sensors. I had never had the lights off my 27, but I knew the 2021 had a removable sensor like this image:
The AlphaRex site had no mention of the sensors, but looking at this picture, it looked like it had the spot for the sensor to be swapped over :
I decided WTF, I'll give it a whirl and see if they work. They had options for Black/Red, Black Smoke or Alpha-Black. They all looked pretty good IMO. At the time, the Alpha-Black and Black-Smoke said their estimated ETA was mid-November. My first choice probably would have been the Alpha black, but I didn't want to get burned on the "estimated" ship date, so I ordered the black/red, since they looked pretty good also.
When the lights came, I was a bit worried, because, it turns out that spot on the back of the tail light was not a pre-cut spot for the sensor. It was just a recessed area on the tail light. I thought I was going to have to cut that out myself to put the sensor in. However, when I took my stock tail light off, there was no sensor!
My first thought was, "Shit! The sensor is inside the damn tail light!" I went on google and did a quick search. It turns out they changed the location of the sensor in 25 to the corner of the bumper.
HUGE relief! I plugged the conversion adapters in and put the tail lights in and viola! They worked with no problem and no warning lights so far. I'm pretty happy with the result. I still may decide to switch over to the Alpha-Black eventually, but these look a lot better than stock. They also have a sequential pattern for the blinkers.
BTW, the other two versions are back in stock also.
Here are links to the three styles:
