To Red Interior Accent or Not

I went with the red exterior color, and the red accents just seemed to be needed after that, to tie the interior and exterior together. I did skip the carbon fiber though. For me, it was one or the other, and I've never been a big fan of CF, not to mention, the application of it seemed minimal for the price.

Just ordered a 2022 myself, black exterior. Strongly considered doing the red accent package, but couldn't justify the value. I would have done it if I had gone for the red exterior (probably), but even then it would have pained me.

Far as I can tell, Ram thinks that the red dye is 1,500 bucks more expensive than the gray dye. The nice, thick bolster stitching and seat inserts are the exact same, except that some are dyed gray and some are dyed red. Definitely think the red is nice, but strongly dislike the fact that Ram is price gouging for it. My rationale for not getting it is:

1) The gray is still nice, and rating my interior as 9/10 instead of 10/10 isn't worth $1,500
2) I'll use the money for something like a Retrax tonneau
3) Ram should know that the raw cost of switching from gray to red dye shouldn't equate to even remotely close to a $1,500 upcharge

Props to those who sprung for it!
I'm of the same mind as you. I would really like the red accents but as a matter of principle I can't bring myself to pay $1500 for something that cost Ram $0. If feels too much like an anal intrusion.

Yup. At the end of the day, it was more about principle than cost. An extra $1,500 on a $95k truck is insignificant, but the principle pissed me off too much.

Initially, I wasn't a fan after seeing pictures and then I spent a week in a LE truck with the red accents and then looked at a truck without and it just looked like a plain jane 1500. I am typically not a fan of accent colors on interiors but I think RAM killed it. The red stitching is a really nice touch and makes the truck feel more special IMO.

I love the look of the carbon interior but the red accents make a much more dramatic impact to the interior and makes me feel like I am getting more for my money. I can wrap the interior pieces with 3M carbon cloth vinyl for cheap.

If you’re down to choosing only one, I feel like the CF makes a bigger impact than the red. Especially on the dash. You just can’t wrap the glovebox and get the same look since it’s textured and lacks the black chrome trim. Plus, at least you’re paying for a different material and not just a different color.

Order what makes you happy, but nothing is truly a must have. Besides the TRX itself, of course. When you’re driving and having fun, none of this cosmetic stuff matters.

Not only this, but the ones I looked at had the faux plate steel inserts if you didn’t have the cf inserts. I think the CF makes it much sportier.

I think that is where you are missing something. It does cost RAM quite a bit of money to have the red accent seats. It’s another order item that someone has to order, log, inventory and store. All of that costs money.

They have to order, log, inventory, and store grey as well. There is a carrying cost for having 2 different options but how do you quantify that? It's not zero, otherwise they'd have a plethora of colors to chose from, but it's not much either. $1, $5, or $10 per order?

This is true, however the initial cost of anything is based on the base model of whatever your referring too (speakers, seats, etc). In this case the cost to carry the grey is already factored into the cost of the truck. To carry anything else will have a cost plus a significant markup for having to inventory it. No different than the HK speakers.

This is no different than the hospital I work in. You want something different (urgency exam, different testing etc) you will pay more for the inconvenience of having to do it differently.

Do you really think the seats closest to the planes exit cost more to make than the seats at the back of the plane? No but there sure cost more because more people want them.

Often with add-ons like this, the pricing is based upon 1) Having to retool the machines to produce a separate SKU 2) Profit grab from exclusivity 3) The cost to carry the inventory (negligible) 4) The risk of no sales.
