Does anyone else have oil consumption problems with their TRX. I'm currently doing a oil consumption test with the dealer because I'm losing/burning/leaking/magical gremlins taking it. (About 3-4 quarts an oil cycle).

What would be the likely fix they would do if they determine it's indeed burning too much.

yikes, no issues with my truck, my last 5.3 GMC consumed almost a quart every 1000 miles which really pissed me off... please keep us updated.

Yea I should try some flex seal next time I do an oil change.
With that much consumption, you could pull some plugs and find the culprit.
Do you see any wisps of blue smoke at WOT?

That seems like a lot... You must be seeing some smoke. I suspect ring(s) and or valve(s), unless you are seeing a lot oil on the garage floor then I say seals. With that much, I'm a little surprised you aren't getting some codes.

What's your oil pressure? How's the performance?

Did the dealer specifically say what their acceptable consumption limit is for this platform? Also…how many total miles on the truck, and how many between oil changes?

I’ve only been able to find a somewhat outdated universal consumption guide from FCA that suggested <1qt every 2,000 miles for the first 50k and then <1qt every 750 miles thereafter. Given that standard, I see they don’t have much confidence keeping the rings free with their recommended oils and oil change interval!

But anyway, my point is what we owners would consider “normal” and what the company on the hook to fix it considers “normal” are two very different things. I know a guy who’s spent some time as an expert witness in court cases over this stuff. It can get ugly.

Wow, up to one quart every 2,000 miles? That would easily qualify as excessive to me.
That would scare the hell out of me. I don't see any loss between oil changes. I'm sure there must be some but it's basically been undetectable. I've had 5 Hellcat engines and never "noticed" any oil losses.

I actually overfill mine on the last oil change by about 1qt. 2500 miles later and it's still in the same place on my dipstick.

Funny the GT350 stated that 1 qt every 500 miles was within spec 😂🤣

Our trx is same as mentioned above, zero oil consumption (or not noticeable) between changes.

We have five of them, and same thing here...never seen any noticeable usage.

Which is good and bad. I'm getting pretty lax about checking the oil levels.
Trust has been earned with my vehicles. I generally don’t check very often at all.

Everything will use some oil by virtue of having a top ring that needs lubricated. Noticeable is definitely the key. I never notice any.

Once you start talking quart in a thousand, 750, 500 in a daily driver (not a race car) you have an engine that has failed in my book. Maybe it didn’t “blow up” but you have an oil control failure that needs addressed and some maintenance practices to reconsider. Until then, good luck keeping clean plugs or a functional catalytic converter in it.

To me, half a quart between oil changes is too much and I'd be wondering what is wrong.
This engine that I'm currently rebuilding definitely had some oil consumption 🤣

Oil pressure holds 70 ish and absolutely no smoke not dripping nothing the gremlins just take it. This trucks only got 22500 miles on it.

1 person at the dealer said what I thought I heard was 1/4 of oil per 1000 but then the guy I was talking to said 1 per 1000. Trucks got 22500 miles on it and manual says 6000 mile oil changes but ever since I've seen the issue I've been doing them in random increments one at 5000 another at 3000 and just did one with the dealer after 1500.

Well a 2023 with 22.5k miles is still under the 5/60 warranty. I would not accept the 1qt per thousand mile explanation. That's pure BS. Even 1/4 qt per 1k miles is stretching it. So I'd want to get that nailed down, in writing from your dealer. No leaks, no smoke, something unusual is going on.

Do you have an oil catch can installed?

If Ram gives you any crap, you might need to hire a forensic engineer / expert mechanic to determine where the oil is going. And explain how this is detrimental to the engine.

No oil catch can. Probably should get one.
