Anyone try this tailgate storage?

In case anyone's interested, the storage box weighs about 22kg (48lbs) according to Huracan Fab.
Wow, that’s like adding a 7 year old to your tailgate. Permanently.
I wasn’t expecting it to be that much.

Yep, I was just as surprised. Prolly a deal breaker for me as Im already over payload on family vacays and #3 is due in 3 weeks lol

I just installed mine today after seeing it for the first time on this thread! Holy hell it's nerve racking chopping the shit out of your 90+ k tailgate! The instructions aren't the best for lining up the template but it is pretty neat when done. Tailgate is quite a bit heavier, but not unlike trucks of the past that you had to lift up. I'm planning on keeping cables, soft shackles, and recovery rope in mine.

Nice man! Show us some pics once you get everything in there! Sounds like a good load of stuff to keep readily available. I've got those items in my reocvery bag inside my truxedo toolbox. Would have to roll up my tonneau to get to. Would be nice to have some of those items in the tailgate for sure. In all likelihood, it would end up being a baby changing station full of a diapers/wipes/cream haha since i usually change her on the bedrug!

you still liking your tailgate storage box? Any negatives other than the added weight? Waterproof? How deep is it ya think?

I have one and really like it so far. I spent all last weekend beating the balls off my truck in the woods(50+mph) and it has remained tight and sturdy. I purchased a junk yard tailgate and had it shaved and had this installed by my body shop.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on it

I like it in general. It does not get as much use as I had imagined. It’s an excellent idea but not fully thought through. I’ll try to make a video review of it ASAP. I should have some time tomorrow.

I do still like it. I like that I can just keep my recovery stuff in there. It's roughly 4" deep. I wouldn't say it's waterproof, but I haven't had anything stored inside get wet yet. I opted for the poly top sheet.

Great to hear. Did u add any waterproof seal of any kind?
I did not. But I also live in a desert that gets hardly any rain. We do travel to snowy areas that have wet roads and have not seen any water in the box yet though.

Did you just install via included self-tappers? If so, box still secure??

Thanks to @DanZman and @Got Pipe for the feedback on this piece of kit. Pulled the trigger on it a few mins ago! Huracan has an updated rain seal that's compatible with our trucks now so I've got that coming as well. Opted out of any of the other extras as I plan to rig up my own bobo led light and bedline the top of the lid when it starts looking ratchet.

For anyone interested, I was able to get them to reactivate the coupon code "FONDU" for 10% off your order. Not sure how long it will be active.

What a project! Im never satisfied with included hardware so of course i had to rig up some nutserts/rivets/etc lol. Turned out well though.

RIP: 2 cheap drills Ive had since 2006, a mini belt sander, a nutsert tool, and a pop rivet gun lol.

Hello to extra space for activities!!

The install looks like a nightmare!

It was actually way easier than i expected. Hardest part was figuring out where to lay the stencil b/c this newer version requires less of the tailgate to be cut. Every vid i watched including a 5th gen Ram 1500, required cutting almost the entire tailgate out. This one left a solid 6” or so on the sides which actually is a good thing. More of the skeleton of the original tailgate is left

Nice work! The only unmodified thing left on your truck is the cab shell and I bet you're already contemplating ways to alter that too lol 😆
