I removed them and it is an absolute PITA to do so. They're secured to the hood with clips, screws, and double-sided tape. It takes about 10 minutes for each side, and if you're the least bit skidish about putting a LOT of pressure on the parts, the noises they make when they're being removed can be a bit unnerving. By the way, if you do decide to remove them, you WILL damage the hood heat blankets and you WILL need to buy the clips that secure the heat blankets to the hood. The blankets and clips aren't expensive, but you'll need them. If you're having the truck ceramic coated, leave them on and have the installer use a flat coating on them. It really isn't worth the effort to remove them for ceramic coating. I removed mine to have them hydro-dipped to look like carbon fiber. This is what they look like after being hydro-dipped.
Debated about the same thing before PPFing my hood. Installer elected to leave them on and was able to nicely tuck material in on the sides. Same could likely be true for ceramic coating. Just mask them.
I wanted to remove mine to make them functional but I decided not to go through all of the hassle. Didnt think it would be worth it. I wonder if anyone has done this.
