I just got home from a quick run to Lowe’s, and noticed that my spare tire was all messed up, riding super low.

I have the bead-lock wheels on my 23, and started looking at the manual on how to retract it. It clearly looks like it was lowered…

No locks on these things?

What do I need to get to secure them?

Thanks!

PS. I figured out how to retract it to it’s normal position, I didn’t see any scuffing around the plastic pieces so it’s possible it wasn’t properly replaced after the undercoating, I’m hoping…

My dealer supplied mine with an ordinary cable bike lock, and 4 sets of keys. It won't detour a serious thief, but will keep a quick grab and go from happening.

Okay, dumb question time.

I could have sworn, my spare tire was beedlock side up when I looked at it.

I am wondering if it was put back on, upside down - so to speak?

My spare tire is beadlock up. You mentioned undercoating. Perhaps they removed for undercoating and put it back incorrectly. Not only upside down but also had some slack that some how you only noticed now.

This is what I have.

Hey @TRX_NewEngland, I'm also from New England and I worry about salt damage to my frame. I assume this is why you did an undercoat? I've casually read that some of these undercoating aren't good because it lets rust grow underneath the coating and you never know until it's too late, did you find a shop or a specific coating that would mitigate this risk? or do you have some info I can read/watch about it? Thanks a lot!

No thief decided to expose himself for 15 minutes in order to steal 1 spare tire and wheel. If he wanted your tires and wheels he would have jacked up your truck, stolen the 4 on the truck, and then dropped the truck back to the ground on the rotors. Less time. More reward.

Your spare should be beadlock ring up. At least, mine is. If it's not, then something funky happened when they reinstalled it after undercoating.

I installed the Mopar Spare Tire Lock (part # 82216081AA). I paid $46.40...kind of expensive. The lock has a magnet on the end that holds it inside the winch tube. The key connects to the jack extension tool. I'm not sure how secure this makes the spare tire. Here's a few pics.

Very interesting. Not the kind of lock I pictured. Thank you for sharing.
