Mopar Power Steps Self Install

I used a Tazer to get mine on the screen. I use it whenever I wash the truck.

Extra easy to enable the UConnect controls via AlfaOBD.

Tazer also can add the Uconnect button. I did mine 100% without dealer intervention this way. But having the dealer add the sales code will bring them under the factory warranty, I guess.
How do you got this done with the tazer ?
Also if I do it with the tazer myself, does the dealership have to add the sales code for warranty ?

Self-install does not give you a warranty beyond the parts 12-month period.

Not sure how to add with Tazer but with OBD JSCAN, you can search for "step" and it will list the adaptations you can change. After you set those as "present" or "activate" it will show up on Uconnect after a few hours. The steps will work as soon as you install them but the Uconnect button takes a while to show up.

There’s an option to enable in the Tazer vehicle settings (sub menu: other). Once done, you get the Ucconnect step controls and even the little animations on the dash. It doesn’t do anything to bring them under the factory warranty though.

Thanks 👍🏻
So let’s say i marry the device and add them thru the tazer, what happens if I unmarry it after a few days? Does (unmarry) of the the tazer disable the steps again ?

Yup I believe so but you can unplug the tazor and leave it married. It only needs to stay plugged in for live features

So this is the thing, I have my tazer without marrying it just for the amber DRLs and power folding mirrors (live functions) wich I understand the tazer has to be plugged in for this.
but what if I (marry it) to add the power running boards and a few days later I just (unmarry) the tazer but Leave it plugged in for live functions, would this affect ( disable) the power steps button that was added with the tazer ?

. So just looked it up and you do have to marry it to make changes in the vehicle settings

Anything in “vehicle settings” (including power steps) can’t be accessed without marrying and will go back to stock when un-married.

Is there a reason you’re so against marrying it? Mines been married and running fine for a year and a half.

It’s just because of the Buggs that people talk about and it’s just easier to remove and put back when taking it in for service, not so much against marrying it just that the functions I was using it for didn’t require it. Thanks for the help 👍🏻

The steps will function without a taser, it just depends if you want the button to turn them off in the uconnect screen. So you can either depend on the taser to provide the button on the screen, which I never used or tell the dealer to add the sales code and truck will eventually do an OTA update and add the button itself.

If you go the second route, the dealer may want to flash your truck to force the update and it messed up the calibration for my Bilstein shocks. See if they'll just apply the sales code without touching your truck. If not, they will need to do the recalibration of the Bilstein shocks because you'll get the "service active damping system" message.

Thanks for addressing to my concerns and also for your video on the installations of the steps by the way 👌🏻👍🏻 I got the installation done looking at your video and the instructions together 💪🏼

I had the mopar power steps added to my truck at the dealer before it was delivered. I’m not seeing them on my uconnect. Anyone know where I should be looking? I know where to look on uconnect 4 but not sure on uconnect 5.

The button appears under Vehicle, one of the four tabs along the top (Control).

That said, if it's not there, you can invoke it with AlfaOBD or go back to the dealership. They do have to update the BCM to get that button to appear. The steps will work without that feature but it's nice to have when parking or washing the vehicle.

Awesome, thanks!

If they just installed them it usually takes a few cycles for the Ucconnect buttons to appear. When I did it via AlfaOBD my buttons didn’t show until the next day.
