Well it happened, I got a nice chip/crack starting right in the eye sight of my drivers side. I was on the turnpike and saw rocks falling from the back of a dump truck, I slowed down and switch lanes but it was too late, I saw a nice size rock flying right for me and it hit the windshield and immediately chipped and cracked (maybe 2"). I am just happy it didn't hit anywhere else. I am PPF'd up front but still the amount/size of rocks I saw could have been a much larger problem. And NO, I didn't get the truck company name or license plate.

Anyone have their windshield replaced? Dealer cost is $2k+, my insurance covers 100% with no deductible and told me they have a partnership with SafeLite. I called SafeLite, they said they can get me an OEM windshield, install and calibrate all the electronics no problem. I then called the dealer I bought the truck from and they said they use "ABC" auto glass (some mom-and-pop shop, forget the actual name) and then the dealer can recalibrate it for me.

For those of you who had to have a replacement, who did you use, and how did it go? I hate the fact that I have to have it replaced but when my annual inspection is due in October I know they will fail it because of where the crack is. Plus I don't want it to get any worse than it is or have the whole windshield crack while out of town or something.

I have not had to replace the windshield on my TRX but I had to on my Raptor and my BMW. Both times used Safelite and they used oem windshields. They did a good job and everything worked fine once they were finished. This was a couple of years ago.

I had safelite try 3 times to replace the glass on my Audi S8 because insurance said they wouldnt pay for replacement at the dealership. Each time taking the vehicle from there to the Audi dealership for calibration afterward…each time failed. The dealership told me to let them handle it all and they would figure out the costs with my insurance without me having to do anything. One round of replacement and calibration at the dealer solved the issue and no cost to me. Personally when it comes to vehicles with imaging based sensors (lane assist) I would use the dealership.

Had my 22 TRX windshield replaced by dealer, insurance covered it. Started ticket with service, they ordered windshield and I brought truck back when it came in. They installed and calibrated. Done in 1/2 day $2600.00

Mine was just over 2k. Do not use anything but the factory glass. The Safelite stuff is not made to OEM specifications. Learned the hard way a few years ago with another windshield.

Just over 2k on mine with OEM glass ordered for a local dealer. My insurance wanted me to utilize Safelite and I flat out refused, as I have had terrible experiences in the past. My mechanic recommended a local company that could replace, and recalibrate at my house. I paid a $150 deductible. You have the right to choose who you have repair. PM me if you want additional details.

I just had my windshield replaced, and I went through Safelite, safe, bet, and they replace my glass with non-factory windshield, and my collision avoidance, didn’t work, my adaptive headlights, didn’t work, a number of things.

I went through a little bit of here and there with my local dealer and the decision was made to order factory glass and replace it with the Safelite glass. The factory glass cleaned up everything and it is as it was so bottom line you’re gonna have to go with factory glass to make all your other shit work.

$1,350.00 all in, no charge for swapping out the windshield

After last windshield replacement I had windshield protection film installed and it has saved me several times from rocks.

Safelite changed the glass in my Raptor in my work parking lot. OEM glass. Recalibrated all the electronics and cameras. No problems. I have $100 deductible comprehensive insurance, because I know once every 2-3 years one windshield replacement is gonna pay for all of it.

Well I guess I'll see how it goes...just booked an appointment with Safelite this morning to come out next week and replace my windshield. Never had issues with them in the past but never had all this technology in a truck before.

If you read the warranty, it addresses using non factory glass.

I just used Safelite about a month ago, and have no issues with HUD or lane assist (not that I would really know because it's so damn hard to keep that icon green). I had to request OEM glass at the time of the appointment and no my eyes it does look like the real thing. The tech mentioned that they have access to calibration settings via RAM's website. Take for what that's worth as it could be a complete lie. But I'm happy with results. I did inquire with the dealership and they told me that I had to pay out pocket then take it up with my insurance.....well that was a no go for me and probably the last time I use them.

I went through my insurance and used a local shop. They used factory glass. Probably from the dealer next door. I have HUD, lane assist and all that. They calibrated it and everything works fine. I wouldn’t let my local dealer put a chain back on a bicycle.

Had mine replaced by my preferred auto glass and film shop they happened to be a preferred vendor with my insurance so it worked out. They couldn’t calibrate it as it was raining but so far it drives normally. The tech called me today and said he would be out tomorrow to recalibrate the sensors.

I’m debating if I should even bother after reading about some of the issues other owners have experienced after recalibrating the system.

For those that were given factory equivalent glass my recommendation is that ensure

1. Your insurance plan covers OEM replacement parts.

2. The claims department as well as your preferred installer knows the equipment should be OEM.

I’ve had to have my windshield replaced on two different vehicles now and have not had an issue when I have requested OEM glass.

lol anyone find a way to warranty their windshield after they get a crack in it?!? haha asking for a friend :ROFLMAO:

Nope BUT when I did have to replace my windshield because of a crack from a rock on the freeway, I at first had them install and OEM windshield and then we found out that none of the forward-looking radar proximity and there isn’t a lot of stuff didn’t work. So I had to order a factory windshield and have that installed and everything worked after we use that windshield but it’s expensive and no insurance.

I got a rock chip just above where I look out on the drivers side. It was really big so I got it "repaired". It was so big the tool they use to cover it was just big enough to seal it. I'm hoping it doesn't start a long crack since I had it sealed. You can see it bright as day and it looks bad but I'm waiting till the next one hits to get it replaced. Or if it's too long I'll probably shell out the 2500-2700 to get it replaced with factory glass.
