Stolen Today! AirTag Got'em

I didnt know the Ring dash cam was out already. I looked into that and they were estimating September.
I was thinking the Tazer but it has to be removed for dealership service, right?

Well, chalk up another Houston area theft. My 2023 was stolen right out of the parking garage across from my busy office complex in the middle of the day at lunch. Smashed the back driver side window, popped off the screen to disable the GPS and used some device to replicate a key to start the truck. Fortunately I just happen to look out the office window and see it was not there. I had hidden two AirTags in the truck in both the front and rear cabin. When I noticed the truck was gone, I pulled up the tracker on my phone and saw my truck on I-45 heading south only about seven miles away. I got my buddy and started following in his car while I had the police on my cell phone giving them coordinates from the AirTag. Five police cars and a helicopter were able to track them down and they got arrested! Crazy Day!
Kick ASS! Glad you got her back!

Oh yeah, it's been out for a while now. To be honest though, the first version of the Ring dashcam has some things they need to improve. It does a very good job with internal video and even night vision video. It's also good during the day but getting a license plate number is damn near impossible. But, the deterrence factor is there. The light on top of the camera blinks and is much brighter and noticeable than our little tiny red light in the cluster.

As for the Tazer, that all depends on how well you know your dealer. If you're good friends with them, you'll be alright. You can also place the Tazer is a mode where it is supposed to be undetectable. But, you can always just unmarry it really quick and disconnect it. That only takes a few minutes and you can do it in the morning before taking the truck in for service.

Yep, it's you but it happens quite a bit. I figured it was the Luddites amongst us. 🤣
I thought i was doing better but i guess not. In all fairness, im old af and doing all of this on a cell phone. I sincerely apologize. I may also be close to having a TRX mental breakdown with the sh*t im dealing with… TRUST me.

Lol. No need to apologize. Just busting your chops.

@Air’d outSRT I had an interesting realization today, something to consider. When out and about ive been trying to use the Drone app to lock and unlock the truck while only popping the fob out of its bag long enough to start the truck. Well, it would not hook up to the truck “in town” because of poor cell signal. So, so much for that idea. I think i may know why or at least in part but i would not want to rely on using the app. I love it in some ways but this was a reality check/ lesson.

So my thoughts on the AirTag is it’s just one more tool to help find a truck if it‘s ”borrowed.” I put one in my truck after taking the speaker from the AirTag out.

There are dead zones unfortunately but if they are happening everywhere then you could try switching it to a verizon sim (drone dealer would need to) or do a reset and see if it needs to be updated. I can do that from here.

Yea LE is moving away from chasing bad guys stealing cars. Enough families were getting killed. So you really need an engine kill switch for a quick recovery, not just a moving location.

“Security in layers” like an onion, nothing is perfect.

The more hurdles in order to get root (or being able to steal a truck) also requires taking more time, that adds up to possibly alerted on.

I just put one in the glovebox (which they found and discarded about 20 miles down the road. The other was hidden under the back seat behind storage area. Thats the one they didn't find and got them caught.
That’s great - I put more than two in mine… not saying the exact numbers as the bad guys could be monitoring us 👽 I also see dead people 🙃
