Sorry, maybe I didn’t explain it clearly because you missed my entire point.SRT Autoworks offers ARH long tube headers on their 8 second killer package, so I can definitely say your first sentence is not accurate.
The 91/93 package only offers midpipes that I will not be using because I put together a custom package using headers and green cats.
I added the headers mostly for the sound. I'm stuck with 91 octane so I'm limited on hp gains. The headers and cats they will be using for my package are Kooks. It's listed on my parts list and its what they are installing on mine.
I disagree with your opinion that installing midpipes without headers is weird. Its personal preference, not weird. I installed a set of GT Haus midpipes, keeping the stock exhaust,
about a year ago and it made a huge difference in sound. I didn't notice any performance gains, but man that thing got obnoxious. The noise was way too much for daily driving. It's surprising how much noise is blocked by the catalytic converters. I had to put the cats back on after a few days. It was definitely too much for me. Headers and midpipes make a difference with how the exhaust sounds regardless of hp gains. Half the fun of owning aTRX is the sound, the other half is that moon rocket thing that happens when you mash the gas.
First, we are talking about the TRX right? To my knowledge they don’t offer the “8 second killer package” on the TRX so I’m not sure why you would be referencing their challenger/charger lineup. My first statement was accurate for the vehicle we are actually talking about in the TRX forum. Yes I know they can add headers to any build…that wasn’t the point. And yes any build can be custom but that wasn’t the question that was first posed asking about the mid pipes they advertise in their “kits.”
SRT specifically advertises installing custom mid pipes on their TRX packages all the way down to the 91/93 kit which is just a 100hp bump on pump gas. At that hp level pulling the cats provides no benefit other than making it excessively loud and raspy and illegal to drive on the road. You attest to that. Which is why I’m guessing that the “midpipes” at that level are not actually cat deletes. I’m guessing it’s something more like this which is a “sound only” mod:
2021-2024 Ram 1500 TRX Mid-Section Exhaust System ATAK Part # 60717
Part # 60717 2021-2024 Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L V8 Automatic Transmission 4 Wheel Drive Crew Cab With Short Bed (5'7") 14 Mid-Section Exhaust System
If that’s the case then so be it…different strokes for different folks when it comes to sound. However, if they are actually deleting cats at that low of a power level then that seems idiotic. Hence, my original statement wondering the accuracy. Guess I can just shoot them a text and ask or drive down the street to chat with them.
Just for your knowledge (at my power level) I currently run stock manifolds with the GT Haus cat deletes (off road of course) with cutouts right after the downpipes and then vibrant ultra quiet resonators in line with the stock ones on the exhaust. So cutouts open its running catless straight dump after the downpipes…rowdy. When cutouts are closed the exhaust goes through both sets of resonators and sounds stock inside the cabin. Good for road trips. Jekyl and Hyde exhaust approach I have taken to my builds for over a decade. So I might know a thing or two about the “sound” portion of having a TRX.
