Anyone know if the spare tire has a TPS in it and if will show up as the fifth tire with pressure on the monitoring screen?

Also is it going to be lockable to keep folks honest?

That’s an interesting question, not sure, but would guess no & no.

If no TPS then that would be a problem for those who want to rotate with it.

If it was a cheap spare, security really would not be an issue. But I'm guessing the tire & rim are worth well over 5-6 hundred dollars. I'll find a way to secure mine for piece of mind. Maybe a decent coated cable lock.

It may already have a security lock & key needed to remove the spare if not:

My guess is does not have TPS as they would have to change a lot in the software to accommodate this (hopefully I am wrong) I also had not thought about this as I am considering rotating them (see my other post), that would be a non starter if it doesn't...lets hope I am wrong!

As for theft, these are expensive rims...heck, I had one of my employees have a cheap spare dropped and stolen right in front of our factory...man some people just suck! I guess we will have to lock them..maybe FCA was nice enough to add a lock for us LMAO

this is wrong.... at least for how my PW works.

the sensing sensors are located near the wheel hubs and it gets picked up as it rotates...
thats how tire rotations also change where the PSI value is located on the dash.

i bet 99% the spare has a sensor

That makes sense. I bet you are right.

I 100% agree. Spare will come with a sensor.

Think you’re referring to Indirect TPMS ( wheel hub speed sensors)? Which don’t actually have sensors mounted inside the wheel.

Direct TPMS which can show show individual psi values don’t use wheel hub speed sensors, they’re pressure sensors w/ transmitters mounted at the outer part of the wheel, at the tire valve area & communicate via RF to the ECU (via a receiver I believe). The 1500 uses a Direct TPMS. And probably the type that only registers once wheels are rotating so having a sensor in the spare wouldn’t be an issue.

The TRX‘s spare might have a sensor, that would be nice, I guessed no because I know some RAM’s w/ full sized spares do not. My wife’s car (Mercedes CLA) system shows air pressure & tire temperature which is pretty cool.

Direct vs Indirect TPMS:

So u r saying that the spare sensor won’t pick up until it’s rotating? This makes since, although I won’t b able to check pressure on the space with the sensor which sucks.

Well I just put my spare on and it isn’t registering any tire pressure… I drove it many miles and still nothing. Anyone else have luck with this?
