Raptor R is Fast!

This all depends on where the test is done relative to sea level and temperature. Everything I’ve seen, in a side by side comparison with the TRX, Raptor R has come in last.

The Ford guys will say the stats showing the Raptor is faster are the correct stats, and somehow discredit the stats where it shows the TRX is faster.

It's the way it with arguing in 2022. There are usually "facts" showing both sides have a valid point. Sides never meet in the middle. They begin attacking sources. "Well your source is wrong ...." It's not just with pickups. It's with everything ...and it's because somewhere out there is a "bonafide" source supporting whatever side of the argument you're on.

I could never afford an R and actually prefer the Ram but the competitive side of me does hate to get beat. Haha . Interesting to see what C&D comes back with. They had the TRX at 3.7 and 12.3.

Every situation... Especially on the street. Ford sucks... 🤣🤣 But at the end of the day none of us would have bought these trucks without the power plant under the hood.... But I enjoy more than just the skinny pedal on the right... It is an instant smile each time it finds the floor though...

I know Ram is now separate from Dodge, but don't forget what ford stands for.

Car and Driver did 3.7 in a TRX and I myself living near sea level can get 3.5 in the cooler months so it depends on "where & when". If they were both in the same place same climate I would bet the Rex wins hands down.https://www.caranddriver.com/ram/1500-trx

I believe rex is faster offroad and on road. I'm not running the bajaja 1000 but I suppose that's a good marketing point. my thought process is that even if the rex loses by a whole second in every scenario, it's still 20k less lol. The only reason I'm here rn is because phil long ford of denver stiffed me out of my 2022 raptor order (which still hasnt been produced btw) and I was able to walk out the door with a brand new level 1 rex out the door after tax and fees at under 80k this july. Knowing how that ford dealer treated me when they advertised themselves as the #1 raptor dealer in the usa per allocation can only give me nightmares on how the adms fees, and stiffing the idiotic ford dealers will do with these new trucks

ford as a company has made every current gen 2, gen 3 raptor a v6 mustang at this point

Rex looks better, sounds better, and is WAY better value (just my opinion)

all things considered equal the gt500 is technically a sports car engine and we have a muscle car engine. better performance in a truck from a design philosophy and why rumors were floated that ford couldn't get their engine past 600 hp at one point. it was never designed to be put in anything but a mustang.

if they were the same price, that'd be a different story. but they aren't so

Agreed about Phil Long Ford. I took my '19 Shelby Baja Raptor there for some basic warranty work and they treated me like I was taking in a 1992 Ford Escort. 1st and last time I dealt with that dealership.

was gonna fly out of state from tx to co as well and drive it back

took a deposit, salesman bait and switched, lied about price protection, original order still not made

koons did none of that and got my order in in 4 months at a better deal

I don't really care which one beats the other by a couple of tenths of a second, however, if Ford was confident that the R was faster, they would have posted "official" times proving it and driven that point home. They never did which tells me a lot.

I also feel that the 6.2 Hellcat engine is a better application in a 6000 lb truck than the 5.2 Mustang engine. I still prefer my TRX even if they were the same price. But I am glad they finally were shamed into putting a V8 back in the Raptor, competition is good.

This competition would be good if not for the current WOFF (war on fossil fuels) declared by the woke and incompetent Biden administration...

I have had Ram trucks and Ford trucks. Im a fan boy of neither. I just love great vehicles. Ive had GMX, Chevy, Cadillac, Ford, Porsche, BMW and love them all. Both the TRX and Raptor R are very impressive vehicles. I love my TRX, but I am sure Id love a Raptor R also. The Ford 5.2 is an extremely impressive engine.

Raptor R seems likely to have a slight performance advantage as it is lighter (although I remain confused why some sources say it’s 200 pounds and others say 700 pound difference ??) Now up on my soapbox for a Ram vs Ford business model comment here - I’m also a former Gen II Raptor owner, and a diehard Blue Oval fan up until the time I ordered my TRX. My V6 Raptor left me stranded, blowing transmission fluid all over the highway near Waco, Texas, all I was doing was driving along with traffic, took it to two separate dealers. Both of them said there was nothing wrong with it and offered no solution. Around the same time “my” Shelby GT500 came in and the dealer tried to charge me 50 K over MSRP after having my $10,000 deposit for 18 months in good faith, and assuring me that they would be “reasonable” when the vehicle came in. I walked out embarrassed. So it was a pleasant surprise when I called local Ram dealer and they said no problem getting 2022 TRX at MSRP, and this was before the price of the truck went up by 8 grand. I got my level 2 TRX for 19k less than a Raptor R MSRP. At my income level, the TRX was a stretch, and you can be certain that no one’s gonna be paying anywhere near MSRP for a Raptor R anytime soon. It’s not hard to imagine somebody paying 150k or more, for a few tics quicker through the quarter mile And of course I think the TRX looks way cooler.

I also came from a Gen 2 Raptor. It was a great truck with no issues at all. However, I traded it in for a TRX after the Raptor R was unvieled. My mind was easily made up after seeing the reveal. There is absolutly no way I would pay the ADM for a truck with little difference performance wise from a TRX, even if I had the money. I also like the looks of the RAM TRX better tham the Raptor R. Hell I liked the looks of my Gen 2 truck over the Gen 3. You would think Ford would have done a little better differentiating the Raptor R from the V6 Raptor. Come on FORD!!!

in case y’all haven’t seen it, here’s a link to very official (not) drag race done by YouTubers Throttle House, if you don’t wanna watch the video, Ram wins from standing start probably due to better launch control and smaller tires. The Ford wins rolling races. In both cases, the difference was around a truck length at the end. They tried to do a race across a wet grassy, muddy field, and no way to tell who is letting off and who is actually keeping the pedal down longer, but the trucks were about even. They did not post any times or even a distance covered but it looks like maybe it’s around a quarter mile. Also, listening to the rev off before the race they must’ve had the Ford exhaust valves closed down because it’s pretty quiet. I’m glad we live in a world where you can still get these crazy machines, won’t be long when everything is gone electric and we will miss having new vehicles like this to choose from. I’m also looking forward to real tests of off-road use of both these trucks head to head. My hunch is the Ford will have some advantage being lighter and on larger tires so in sand, mud and other low traction surfaces may be faster. would also like comparisons of approach and departure, angles, break over angle, etc. but at least Ford responded to Ram by finally getting away from rear leaf springs (welcome to the current century Ford), and sticking a blown V-8 in their machine.

Yes car and driver is much closer to the real numbers of a stock TRX, I’m curious as well
