I am currently trying to buy a TRX. I went to the same dealer that I purchased my challenger from and they hooked me up on that, so I went back to the same dealer and they are trying to charge me 10,000 over. I know the people that work there but they said there is no way that they can sell without going 10,000 over sticker price so I told them I did not want to do that and that I would shop around and that I did not appreciate them giving me the runaround and trying to price gouge me. He said that there will probably be rebates that will cancel out the extra charge, but that just sounds like a bs excuse. Has anyone else experienced this and is everyone else paying over sticker price? Should it just be expected to pay over? I really want one of these trucks and I am already spending 80 K on one so I don’t want to spend an extra 10,000 just so the dealer can make some money on the side! Help!!

I ordered my truck on August 18 the day after they officially announced it. I was on our dealers waiting list for almost 2 years and I was the second person they gave one of their allocations to. However, I was on the list of three other dealers here in Colorado, and only one dealership refuse to charge anything over MSRP. I was able to get the truck at MSRP but all of the other dealers wanted 5,000 to 10,000 more.

I think a lot of people on this forum ended up paying over MSRP, I don’t know how many and I’m not sure if they were paying 5,000 over or 10,000 over or even more. There may be some other threads on this forum that will shed some light for you.

Demand for this truck is relatively high and the supply is significantly low, so my guess is price gouging will continue for quite some time.

I think the big thing you have to watch out for is make sure that your dealership truly has an allocation for you, otherwise it can turn into a big mess and you could end up waiting for a very long time. Sounds like dealerships are over selling these trucks even if they don’t have allocations and for some folks it is not going well.

Good luck!

It's really all over the board as far as pricing goes. There have been a few say they have gotten it slightly under MSRP, a bunch of us that are paying MSRP and then those that have put a deposit on anything from $5K to maybe a little more.

Just shop around. MSRP dealers are out there or you could wait because '22 models are going to come out probably Q3 when Ram switches the line over to '22 models

I freely admit I am paying 5k over msrp as well as had to put 2k down for a non LE. My order came out to 93k+ msrp excluding those charges. Total is 98989. My dealer wanted 25k over for a LE. This order is already 400 miles away and I didn't want to have to drive any further. I am kinda shocked to see so many people capable of buying a 90k truck but get cold feet when asked to spend another few thousand. If you want the truck, pony up and get one. What's 5k when your already spending 80 or 90k already. It's like buying a 10 dollar burger but too cheap to add $1 of bacon.

I searched around in Southwest Florida. Most dealerships were 10-15k markup but I found one that sold at MSRP. Drove up 2 hours later and threw down a deposit.

Spoken like a typical american that asks "how much down and how much a month" not "how much does it cost"......

If you are financing anything it is easy to get into the "you are spending X dollars already whats a few more" but if you are writing a check or handing over cold hard cash it is very apparent what an extra $5,000 is.....50 more $100 bills which is a lot of money no matter what the sticker price is and pretty much everyone would change their tune if they had $85,000 stacked in cash in front of them to spend on a truck they would only choose the options they really want and not just "load it up" and they would likely try harder to shop around for a dealer willing to give them the best deal around and not agree so quickly to ADM but that is just my 2 cents and unless you are my kids you don't have to listen to me.

I personally didn't chose carbon fiber, Harmon Kardon, Red Accents, hood or bed graphics, or a sunroof all though they are all options that look good it was an extra $7k plus that I didn't want to spend for aesthetics when I could buy accessories for the truck that I would use more or hell for that price I could get some decent used quads and dirt bikes to take with on off roading trips. All in all my MSRP came out to $83,500 which is still a hell of a lot for a truck but a lot less than what was previously tied up in my current truck plus hellcat challenger which this truck is replacing both

LMAO I guess that is one way to put it. if it is the norm that people are spending over asking then it is what it is but I don’t want to be the sucker that pays over sticker when the majority are getting it for MSRP. it’s more of just a principal for me

Fair enough, to each thier own. I wanted a TRX so I was not going to let 5k stand in the way. I'm writing a check for mine. No financing. Imo, if you have to count pennies for your options on a 80k+ truck OR require financing for said truck then one probably should be looking to save elsewhere and not buy a truck beyond thier budget. Just my .02.

I buy 1-2 new cars every year so I count all my pennies. A penny saved on my TRX, a penny saved on getting my outlander xmr 1000 atv at invoice, is a lot of pennies to go towards my Hummer EV I have a reservation for.

I am having a heart to heart conversation with my dealer today on the likelihood of me actually getting a TRX by June 2021. I put a $1000 deposit down with them at MSRP on 10/27/20, so I am willing to wait, but in the meantime I had them quote me for a 2021 75th Anniversary Power Wagon. I got the family or employee cost, which will save me about $5k and leave me enough money for a Razr... Such a hard decision.

Yea that is what happened in 2015 to the hellcat challengers, there were a bunch of people (myself included) that placed an order had a VIN and then they came out with and started building the 2016s so they canceled all the 2015s that were ordered and not built yet and let you order a 2016 for the lower price of the 2015

Seems logical, but I doubt they would have a '22 Launch Edition...lol.

Don't let him off the hook with that type of BS. He's calling you a "typical American" while he's tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. It's absolute ignorance and I'm sorry Brad, you're just flat wrong. Evo8 is writing a check for $100 grand, as am I, and I can tell you that as a small business owner there's nothing typical about not financing $100K worth of truck.

Buying a six figure automobile that's the baddest thing to hit the road in a long time and NOT getting every option you can get is the ignorant "typical American" part of this equation. Just like my brother in law buying the base model Ford every few years and then wondering why it has no resale value as he's financed it to the hilt and worth less than he owes. Get a clue Brad. Who gives two squirts about $7K? If you do, maybe you shouldn't be in this game.

To the OP..... I gave $5K over but Dallas Dodge was accepting offers of $30K over and Greenville wanted $15K over. Mind you..... These are for an allocation of the first run vehicles, not these "sold" vehicles that some seem to be confused about. As Evo8 said.... Is $5K really that big of a deal when you're talking about a six figure truck? The one thing I'd be really sure about is whether you're getting an allocation or a future vehicle in which case you shouldn't have to pay over MSRP, IMO.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum,

J

I didn’t pay a penny over msrp. Parkway Chrysler in Michigan hooked me up. I got all black fully loaded with graphics rambar and rock rails.... i ordered the morning it was available and I’m in inspections as of now. Praying they release it soon.

I feel your pain. It doesn't seem right that dealerships can do this but I am a believer in capitalism and the bottomline is they have a product that is in high demand and short supply so they are going to use that and make as much money as possible. I am paying 10K ADM for my LE and while it I didn't like it and maybe I could've gotten one cheaper outside my area I was able to live with it. I have driven my current truck for almost 13 years so it won't hurt as much if I have a badass truck that I love for the next decade or so.

If your you tend to buy a new vehicle every few years then it might not be as palatable. Also, if your okay with your current vehicle then you might wanna wait till the 22's come out. They won't have near as much leverage and with the delay in production you probably won't get a 21 any time soon. That being said, I know Raptors in my area still sell over MSRP often so you never know.

Shop around . There are a lot of dealers selling for nothing above msrp. You may just have to settle with the stuff they ordered.
