Oil preference and filter

Never had my oil come out black, but i dont think this truck has had an oil change go past 4k.
Ive had the fumoto valves since my first oil change, definitely a lot easier and less messy to change. Also removed the black shield under the oil filter and can fit a quart bottle and funnel under the filter drain.
I don't speed with my oil changes, I open the valves Friday night after work, then close them sometime Saturday and put the filter on and oil in.

If I ever did this, I know I'd get up Saturday morning in a late-GenX brain fog, fire it up and drive the final few minutes of it's life.

I've been doing it this way for years, it's a habit. But I also leave the hood open and the oil on the radiator cover, so it's kind of obvious something needs to be done before starting(I never leave the hood open for any other reason)

That’s an idea, I’ll try this thanks.

Just what I needed, more oil.View attachment 126593
I didn’t price shop too much, but it was more expensive than I can get both Amsoil SS and Red Line so this is probably gonna be a one-off for me. That is, unless it shows me something really special. But for those wanting API maybe it makes sense.
Been using Schaefer’s for over 30 years in everything from dozers, farm tractors,to side by sides. Get it directly from Schaefer’s. Never had an issue.

That's one of the reasons that I tried it- some tough customers (heavy duty, fleet owners, etc.) that swear by it. I'm on my second oil change with Schaeffers. Planning to do a side-by-side test of several oil labs and keeping Schaeffers at my next change (August). Hope to have a write up for the forum in early September.

Yep, Schaeffer’s is huge with OTR truckers. I’ve never seen or heard anything but positives about it but I’d like to see for myself…

I've been doing my own oil changes and have been using the factory recommended Shell oil. I send an oil analysis to Blackstone each time, mainly just to show I've done the oil changes if I ever had a warranty issue. I do the oil changes at 4k miles and both times the results have come back and say that the viscosity is slightly low. Blackstone says it's not a concern and it's not due to fuel contamination. I still don't like that the viscosity is low after only 4k miles though. I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 on the next oil change to see if that makes a difference.

I use the Mopar MO-041 "SRT" filters on mine. There is an extensive filter analysis for these trucks that OnTheReel put together, it can be found here: https://www.ram-trx.com/threads/22-ram-trx-hellcat-oil-filters-cut-compared.9481/
This is so great to hear. In Europe, you have to take car to official dealer if under warranty and that oil / filter change costs you roughly $900. That’s right, almost thousand bucks for a 5 min oil change.

I’ve done it once in 10 years since I came back from US. Such a stupid mentality.

I've recently hit the 30,000-mile mark in just two years. I changed the break-in oil at 1,000 and again at 5,000 miles. Since then, I've been changing the oil every 5,000 miles. I've just sent a sample to Blackstone Laboratories at my 30K service interval, but the new dealership I visited last time recommended changing the oil every 3,500 miles. Depending on the results from Blackstone, I'll decide whether to stick with the factory-recommended Pennzoil or switch to Liqui Moly and I will do it myself. I noticed some of you change your oil every 4,000 miles; is there a specific reason for that? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I'm with you; I changed mine at about 800 miles, and will go with about 5k from now on. The main purpose of synthetic oils is prolonged changing intervals. Unless a vehicle is idling a lot and/or really beaten on 3500 mile intervals is completely unnecessary.

Yeah, do it yourself for sure. It's not bad at all! I don't have to raise it and access is easy. The first change was a b*tch because of the overtightened filter but otherwise smooth going.

I’ve seen some samples from Hellcats that were still fine after 5k, and plenty more that were trashed by 2500 miles. Pennzoil SRT wouldn’t even stay in grade for 2000 miles under my use. A true synthetic (Red Line) has been good for 4k based on my sampling. That’s double the mileage but still far from “extended” in the traditional sense. I use a superior product to keep things cleaner and better protected. If I ran said product too long those advantages would disappear. Sample and let the equipment tell ya what it wants.

Yeah my Amsoil is pretty black at 5K, I like this oil and I’ll stick with it, just going to start changing it at 4-4.5K miles, bought a “ValvoMax oil change system” Quick Twist, this is about a less messy oil change. Allows you to empty oil
into a container you can put a cap on. So I’m better and faster at changing my oil.
I’m considering switching to Amsoil Signature Series 0W40, does it meet RAMs requirements for warranty? Thanks

  • Meets or exceeds the following OEM requirements: Chrysler MS-A0921 (SRT)
  • Exceeds the requirements of the following industry specifications: API SP

I’m about to do my 4th oil change. Car is now 2 years old and just hit 8,000 miles. Dealer has done the last 3 changes. I’m gonna start doing them going forward. Have both valvomax plugs ready and debating on the oil I’m gonna use.
So you have the link to the exact valvo plug?

Yes Amsoil Signature Series 0W-40 does meet or exceed the OEM standards for the oil. Amsoil also has something called warranty secure. plus your warranty cant deny you coverage due to you not using what the manufacturer recommends but if they try then Amsoil will help you fight it.
