Does anyone out there use a laser jammer?uniden R9 for $4000 was a bit much but escort redline CI has stood up to every gun for around $1500.i heard 4 heads in front 2 in back is recommended for us(larger vehicles).Any thoughts?

I've had a Redline Escort 360c for a few years and have been lasered once. Not sure it's worth it.

Howdy! I am one of the admins on rdforum.com.

The r9 has shown some pretty good promise but it is still new to the game. We tested it on my TRX and it was very effective with a quick and dirty install on the front and rear against all the different laser guns.

There are a couple of issues;
1) with it being new, we don't know how well it will hold up in rain/snow. The previous gold standard, ALP, has gone through somewhere like 9 generations of shifter heads trying to minimize common water intrusion issues.
2) Some versions of the dragoneye guns will throw a jam detection indicator against the R9. This is dangerous in some states where jammers are illegal.

My daily driver has an R9 system and my TRX ALP. Both are good picks performance-wise. Lately ALP has been a bit more finicky to get working perfectly whereas the r9 is ridiculously easy.

I use ALP on all of my vehicles. It works! Was actually hit today with a truspeed gun. Worth every penny!!

Can you please elaborate on this? Because I've never heard that Alp wasn't the Jammer of choice on rdf. Inquiring minds want to know. Also if you could show head placement on your TRX that would be awesome! Thanks👍🇺🇲

Hey yeah!

AL has always been the gold standard but with the r9 showing up, we've seen it perform much more solidly and have seen ALP performance drop with updates. Thankfully the USA rep is aware and they seem to be working on it with feedback. (Uniden has also been good here and have sent out the engineers that made the r9 to the last 3 testing events).

As far as optimal placement, the R9 can go on the top brow of the front grill with 3 heads and be perfect. The ALP, we are still trying to figure out and will actually have more data next week since the big testing event is this weekend. I'll get you some more info and pictures next week!

So do you think that the R9 will have the same kind of update support for new guns like alp does? That's a big deal to me anyway.

Thanks for the other info too. I'll have to pop back on to rdf and do a little digging! I haven't been on for a while.

The uniden guys seem to have a good gun support. For a certain model of lidar gun, they used 3 different copies to form their entire algorithm which successfully jammed every single version of that lidar gun that our group owns.

They ran into an issue with only one single lidar when placed in a specific mode but since they had their engineers out to the testing event, they recorded the gun on the spot and the next update had it fixed. We really don't know how they'll handle this in the future but the rep is very responsive and the engineers fly out from Korea for every single one of our testing events since the r9 was released. A good sign so far. We also found a mechanical issue and brought it up to them and they had the part redesigned to fix it in a few months.

One thing I do want to touch on is we don't yet know what their warranty/replacement policy will be like. I don't think there's currently any way of getting replacement parts easily and we don't know how much it will cost.

Finally, the r9 is not currently standalone. If you just want the laser shifters without the radar part, that's not possible to purchase (although we have tested using the laser part with a dash mount r4/r8 and it works perfectly fine). We're trying to convince them to sell the laser part separately from the radar...

Luckily in Texas most of the LEO dept. do not use Laser.

I have programmed my R8 to specifically filter for the ranges used in my area using the information provided by the rdforums...before the TRX, the last time I had a radar was 20 years ago or so.

Looks like I might just have to spend about four grand plus a couple grand for custom install! Toys, toys, toys!🤣

I look forward to seeing your head placement. And any custom install work you had done for ideas. I know vortex recommended a place in bellevue, but the place down south looks like it's more custom.

I'll check rdf to see if you have anything posted over there specific to the TRX.🇺🇲
