I'm trying to get a consensus of opinions on the installation of a rear Hellwig sway bar on a 2023 TRX. Is this a real necessity? I'm always trying to improve the handling of my vehicles and from what Ive read this is a major improvement. Realizing that the TRX is over 6000 lbs, and can only handle just so well, has anyone thats installed this noticed a big improvement? If so, it what way?

It does from what I’ve read, but you lose some travel

Recently installed mine a week or two ago. Definitely an improvement with body roll and taking turns at higher than normal speeds.

Like others have mentioned it may not fair to well when off-roading but to be honest it wasn’t that hard to install so I’d probably remove it if I knew I was going off road.

I just got the sway bar installed rear one specifically the turns are sharper and handles better

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but does it help with stiffing the suspension for towing at all?

I’ve got the front and rear done. Huge difference in handling and body roll is nearly non existent. I’m so much happier with them. I don’t do extreme off-road so I don’t have concerns about that. This thing hits mud and snow and I’m better off with the handling being so much better. I highly recommend if you’re doing more street than anything else.

Noticeable improvement in handling overall. IMO it's how the truck should have came from the factory. Kind of amazing the engineers didn't put in the effort to make one fit without any real compromise. I installed mine with spacers pushing it away from the rear axle about .55" to give everything more clearance. Mine is adjusted where I'm losing MAYBE 1/2" of flex before a wheel comes off the ground (I'm honestly not sure, I didn't have good "before" flex numbers - I'm basing this off of numbers I've seen posted on here) and no loss in droop or compression. I spent a couple hours playing with the end link lengths and found a "happy range" where the nothing is binding/rubbing on anything at full flex and/or full droop - verified numerous ways before jumping it - and nothing bad happened. I'm probably losing a little on-road performance from the swaybar adjusted like this, but like I said, I did notice an immediate improvement in on-road handling, so I'm happy with it. About 15-16K miles and counting since install.

While I like the handling improvement, color me otherwise unimpressed with the Hellwig. Especially for the current price of nearly $500. Hardware is shitty, and the “powder-coating” on the sway bar is already rusting pretty badly after one winter. I replaced the adjustable links with solid ones from Core4x4 and that improved things a little.

If I had to do it again for my 2021 I’d buy a used OEM bar from a normal 5th gen, and the Core4x4 links. Still might actually. Less than half the price and gives most of the benefit, unless you really get off on the adjustability. Of course with 2022+ trucks it’s a little more complicated lacking the bolt holes.

does not fare well offroad at all. drivers side mount point to the frame broke loose first trip out and I ended up getting it removed and scraping it.

for street driving, it is great for the sub 500 miles I had it on the truck.

did not re-buy.

I am glad I am not alone on my Hellwig opinions. I bought one for my 2014 Ram 1500 back when I had it, and after a few thousand miles the powder coat had cracked in several spots, and a few thousand miles more, it was about 1/3 covered with rust.

Bought one for my 2020 Ram 1500, and the same thing happened. Didn't even bother taking it off the truck before trading it.

I think I might still have the 2020 OEM unit in my garage storage, to be honest. I will also say the Core 4x4 links were great on the 2020.

Does the rear sway bar part #7794 (Hellwig rear) work on a 2023? I don’t see multiple different parts for different years. Just ordered one (#7794) and am now hoping there is is not a fit issue.
Thx!

whats the part number for a oem rear bar that would fit with the trx rear ? Any 5th gen? Are the 2500 or 3500 oem bars bigger diameter? I would not mind trying a oem one in the factory bolt locations etc

Yes 7794 Is the one you'd want.

Got it. Works and it is phenomenal! Special Thanks to Shawn Leiger at Hammer Perf.

I put my rear sway bar on a few months ago. I started with the loose setting, then graduated to the middle one for a while. Today I put it on the tightest one and did a flex test. Still plenty of flex but you definitely lose just a little bit. It's only been on there a few months, and mine too is already rusting pretty decent. I have one on my Sierra and it is completely rusted, which only took about a year. I do have an undercoating on my TRX so I'll have them touch it up and spray the bar before this upcoming winter.

I'm also disappointed in the craftsmanship. My bar was uneven (not symmetrical). One side has more curve than the other. So while it works, everything does not look perfectly symmetrical. Also the end links, one of them was threaded all the way, while the other was threaded to a certain point. Small things like that bother me, especially for what it costs. But it is doing its job and has tightened up the cornering/rolling quite a bit.

Has anyone here done anything for the front sway bar after getting the rear one installed? Does just replacing the end links make a difference or will putting a new bar in make the most difference? I will not be jumping mine and doing mild off roading (muddy fields) where flex and jumping are not really a concern. If installing the front sway bar requires to remove a ton of equipment and/or differential, etc., then count me out.

I love the improvement in handling. However, I hear the front end creak when I am backing out of a parking spot. Anyone else have this issue?

How many of you have your sway bar set at the stiffest setting (third hole)? Noticable difference? I have mine currently set in the middle…

Thanks in advance 👍

I tried all three settings over the span of a few months. I settled on the softest setting which to me makes the ride and handling feels the most balanced.
