GM L87 6.2L V8 Recall

What’s interesting is I haven’t heard mentions of the supercharged variant yet. I have seen more than a few failures from those as well.
Curious if it’s the same issue or something else.

I just watched the episode of the Motor Oil Geek. He was explaining how GM, despite what it said earlier, proved the point that a higher viscosity oil will not damage an engine.

I had an SS with the 6.2l LS3 and really liked that motor a lot. A big reason why I'm driving a TRX vs a ZR2 with the 6.2l is all the failures. I'm sure glad to have made that decision, the TRX is so much better in the conditions I drive in. Wyoming is brutal on pickups.

Good buddies daughters just went in for issues, they claim its the injectors, we shall see

The engine in the SS is different. That car had a “pure LS3”. No DOD or other modern tricks. Just power and reliability. I loved my manual SS and will likely be looking for one again in the next couple years.

Scanning for a code to detect dimensional issues with the bearings is a ridiculous “inspection”. The cam and crank need to be 11 degrees out of phase before that code even appears. They are basically saying the bottom end needs to be seizing up before it’s detected.

Truth is, GM realizes there’s no practical way to actually inspect these. So make up some BS to kick the can down the road rather than bite the bullet and replace all of these defective engines.

Ordinarily I’d be happy they changed the oil spec to something more reasonable but considering the circumstances I’m not. They are just doing it to band-aid and screw the customer. Extended warranty would do nothing to make me feel better if I had one.

The only good thing to come of this is that the internet experts can finally shut up about VVT, cylinder deactivation, etc not working correctly with a thicker oil. “The engineers that know best”are now giving you a 10 year warranty on a defective engine running 0w40.

Almost like GM is laughing at everyone lol
They have to recall all these engines for blowing up and release a video talking about how dependable they are

I second this. I had a manual ’13 Camaro SS with the LS3 that I bought brand new. I drove the absolute shit out of that thing for 70,000 miles and didn’t have one single issue. It’s by far the most reliable/problem free vehicle I’ve owned to date. Loved that thing.
