So I have almost 3,800 miles on my 22 and I noticed a puffing noise in the cab while under a load with light throttle. I could hear it both when it was cold or when it was up to temp. I got under it yesterday to look around and I found a spot the exhaust is leaking at.

I mentioned this in the Facebook group and another guy said his was leaking from the same spot. I loosened up the clamp and tried to move it but to my surprise the clamp is welded to the exhaust. Anyone else come across this issue?

How ironic, I noticed some condemnation drops on the garage floor today. Crawled under the truck, and yes I have the same leak.

Same on mine. I always figured that was a weep hole for condensation in the exhaust. Post a video of the noise when you get a chance.

Rob,

A weep hole would make sense. Thanks

Haha I know, 1,000 of them were from the trip down from picking it up; Last week I was driving the wife to work in north Austin/Georgetown and back twice a day so I could be back home to work too. The pandemic really has medical workers worn out and I didn’t want her getting into an accident after 12-13 hour shifts (most of the time too busy to take a lunch or get a break).

Exhausts don’t need a weep holes, as long as water doesn’t get above the exhaust ports to get into the engine and as long as it’s running it’ll be blown out or evaporate. If there’s any exhaust escaping from the engine head to the exhaust tips it’s a leak.

And I tried getting video but my phone picks up too much drone to really hear it. It’s very faint but you can kind of hear it if it play it on your phone since any kind of bass downs it out. In person it’s clear as day.
Listen to the first video closely between from 4-12 seconds

Most exhaust systems have weep holes but they’re usually at the resonator or the muffler to let condensation drip out of the system. Mine is leaking condensation at the same connection / joint as yours. I can hear what is likely a tiny exhaust leak on mine too (probably at that joint). There’s posts all over the hellcat forum with chargers and challengers leaking condensation at the mid pipe section near joints similar to ours. You could run it to the dealer and see if they can take care of it for you or run it to a reputable exhaust shop and have them weld it up or put on a better clamp. I’m not too worried about it since I plan to throw on a Borla exhaust at some point.

Same spot after a foggy night in the 40s with layer of condensation on exterior of truck… this is prior to driving if I remember correctly.

Coming from the Hellcat Charger/Challenger and Jeep Trackhawk world this is completely normal and is affectionately called 'Cat Piss", it was a big concern in '15 when they first came out but then everyone realized it was normal and how they drained out any captured condensation, so nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the input fellas! I’ve worked on vehicles for the last 13 years and I’ve never come across, let alone heard of, a weep hole for an exhaust.
