Disappointed with TRX

Just dropped my 23 Lunar TRX off at the dealer yesterday after my radiator started leaking. Currently have 20,400 miles on the clock. Dealer is replacing my radiator and thermostat. I am pretty disappointed in the quality of a truck with a sticker price of $106K. They are putting the new revised radiator in the truck, but I am not optimistic that they changed anything, but the part number.

If I keep the truck for a lengthy period of time, I will have to buy the MaxCare plan from Mopar. You can't have a Stellantis product without a warranty. It's just not smart. Who knows what will let go down the road?

There's a "revised" OEM radiator? I just bought one last week...it's still the original radiator (part number 68430021AA) they've been using since the start of TRX production. There's nothing on this forum or on mopar.com about an updated OEM radiator.

No clue. That's what my service advisor told me when I dropped it off. He said they have a new part number to replace the leaking ones. Again, I am not optimistic. You can't ever go by what the dealer tells you in terms of parts revisions and/or design changes.

If my factory radiator fails I'll be replacing it with an aftermarket version without the plastic end tanks. I'm sure that's where the factory ones are failing, this seems to be a common issue with a lot of vehicles now.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I didn't see a full aluminum direct replacement for the TRX which is strange because of how flawed the OEM design is. If you want the Cold Case full aluminum radiator, you have to get one for a Chevy Silverado and modify it slightly to work. Unless I'm wrong?

Entropy is making one now and last I saw it was around $2k. Apparently there is something complicated about the design of the TRX radiator and they raised the price. I'm guessing that's probably why not many offer one. I agree, based on the issues and apparent demand you'd think some others would offer one as well.

Has been the issue since they started doing it! I have been lucky over the years but have replaced many for others on every make and model. If your mix is not right or you just get a freak situation expansion breaks the seal. Same as if you put straight water in left it outside to freeze and got surprised when the block cracks. Know these are 10, 15, 20 year products in the tanks now but still good idea to gauge them to know what temp they will give in at and add the concentrate to bring them where they should be. I really need to research what is special about TRX rad because 2k for ours vs 700 1k for most anything else. Feels like it's a na you have a TRX need more just cuz deal. Could be wrong but I will have to be shown something I have never seen that is ultra complex to pull off.

It's been my experience that with a changed part number, the part is actually better. Basing that on fleet cars. Fans on Chargers, for example. Fingers crossed.

As far as the initial quality of vehicle, the MSRP is based on all the performance, and not impeccable quality control. I believe if it was also a finely built vehicle a lot of people would be priced out of the market.

Hey guys, I’m a frequent poster to these forums and have owned my 2022 Ram TRX since July 2022. Currently sitting at just under 41k miles and I noticed some coolant leaking this morning, took it to the dealership and found the radiator is busted and in addition the axle mount is also broken and needs replacing. My radiator was busted 2 years ago as well and was replaced under warranty. The dealership has scheduled me to have a diagnostic next week, they cannot guarantee a loaner and if it will be covered under warranty. I can’t help but feel ripped off and jaded. I take excellent care of my vehicle and use it for hauling things and frequent road trips with the family so I have no idea why these issues have popped up. I do have an extended warranty as well with pretty coverage so I may look to go that route for repairs. But has anyone else had such experience in a TRX with less than 45k miles? I feel the quality in these trucks isn’t what it should be for the price point.

One must remember, it's about smiles per gallon, not about cost per mile to maintain!

Can we have one god damn thread on this forum without someone complaining about the quality of their “$100K truck”?

It’s not like Ferraris and Lamborghinis are any better. Get over it and accept that quality across the board sucks.

I've never had a new vehicle that had a radiator go out at 20K miles. That's all I'm saying.

I can see that. I agree that it sucks. My mindset is that you have to pay to play. Nothing is free. Reliability is inversely related to performance and when you throw mass market affordability into the mix, you get the TRX.

Just got the truck back and it feels like new. No more fans kicking on unnecessarily when oil temps were low. Tech said when he took the thermostat out, it fell apart. It was bad for awhile and that may have been what took out the radiator. Thank god for the warranty! Back on the road after 3 days!

I doubt that a bad thermostat took out your radiator.

Just a thought. I know it's been bad for a good amount of miles. I complained about it months and months ago, but dealer said it was normal for the temp to shoot up high and then for the fans to kick on to cool the temps down. Obviously they were wrong. It's odd that some guys can go 80K miles without any radiator issues while some of us start having issues early on.

Luck of the draw, unfortunately we are finding new out of the box parts shot on arrival. Can be worse on some things but everyday techs are having to return new inbox parts that came in out of spec. Until we fix crap like that where someone is trying to pass it on because they do know we won't be seeing those million mile little to no maintenance rigs. That is all by design, by now we should have bullet proof rides that rarely ever break but it's always going to because that's how they sell think lots are overloaded now. Would be nice to have indestructible stuff but you unfortunately will never get people to that mindset too much money to be made in failure. Why things in the industry don't get fixed so they can sell the fix or a new vehicle down the road. Really hate job security people they ruin great things!
