Curious on BWoody Positives and Negatives. I understand the whole cold air vs hot air, but I'm also up in Northern Michigan. Thoughts?

I wish we had some data comparing both performance wise. In theory the heat will have an impact and we've all seen tons of arguments from both sides over and over on this forum.
I got one of the first S&Bs and have always enjoyed it but expected more from the SC whine. I can't hear it unless I close my exhaust electric cut outs.

The bwoody makes it perfect but I don't love it to favor over any performance loss. If data backed out claims it's a wash between the two I would definitely get the Bwoody.
How about water or debris being sucked in without any drain ports? I don't offroad

I agree with you 100% I didn’t even buy it for sound, mainly to allow for a view of the engine bay rather than plastic. But it is one hell of a loud whine. Have not heard it from outside the truck in person besides letting a friend rev it. But the videos online you see don’t even do it justice. I wouldn’t mind if it was actually quieter. I also have a stock exhaust so nothing is competing with the sound of the intake. But I definitely would throw the stock airbox back on if I did off-road. Seeing you don’t need the cross brace with the Bwoody it’s an easy swap with the stock intake for a weekend off roading and back on for street drive whining. I believe the other closed intakes like you and others have are overall better for what the truck is made for an probably in general. But from experience if you want a Bwoody to just pop on and off here and there once you fit it on. It comes off with the supercharger screw and the coupler and every time after that is easy peazy. Disclaimer. I have zero knowledge on any performance.

If anyone cares. After 3 days of driving in 65-85 degree weather back to stock intake from the Bwoody I took off for the upcoming winter. I can say there is basically no difference in temps. Anywhere between 25-80 degree difference from ambient. Just like the Bwoody. Have no other performance mods. The heat soak from sitting still rises the same and if anything I’ll give the stock intake some credit it seems that while cruising after it’s heat soaking it gets a little lower in temp than the Bwoody but only by 5 degrees from my un documented memory data. I’d still say overall the stock intake would be the long term way to keep it vs the Bwoody but from my uneducated experience based off whatever credit you give the temp sensors on the dash the hot air/ heat soak theory doesn’t seem to be a huge issue unless someone can explain that it’s more than just what that sensor reads.

I might end up getting a Bwoody and will swap back and forth with the S&B.
Other thing is too, like I said the Bwoody is loud as hell and I wish it was even a bit quieter. I live in Massachusetts and remember my first winter with the truck the supercharger was a lot louder with stock intake in the winter with the more dense air I suppose. Talk about the v6 raptor trombone… with that Bwoody and the cold metal resonating and the dense air.. might be sounding like a raptor out the front grille in the winter lol. But I think if you go with the basic options like I did on the Bwoody. You won’t spend as much and will be happy with it. Especially if you swap back and forth and not stuck with either or.

been thru 2 winters in Michigan with Bwoody, drive it 3 hours up the highway almost every weekend in winter. Zero issues, and i didn't do anything with the drain ports.

i'm on the fence , i have the afe but i want to see that motor, lol. im thinking the JMB but 1k

I purchased a Bwoody, it should be getting to me tonight... upgraded filter and dry charger cap.

I have the S&B but it doesn't deliver as much whine as I want it at times I want to have fun with the truck.

I will use both at different times of the year. Winter, summer install the S&B and spring and Fall if I feel like hearing her scream swap it by the Bwoody...

For each their own I guess.

Please post how much more whine you think the bwoody has compared to the s&b. I have the s&B and always think I could use more whine

Installed the Bwoody last night...
Holly shit. The whine is intoxicating. S&B is a 4 Bwoody takes it to a 9.
I've been on the fence for years on it, glad I finally checked what it's all about.
I have the S&B and will keep both for different seasons on snow I'll prob have the S&B on because of added protection. I think the Bwoody offers enough protection for those like me who don't take if off the pavement though.
It's definitely a mod for those who like to spice the truck up for enjoyment, the whine screams TRX.

damn it, i was hoping you said it’s not that much louder :ROFLMAO:
I have exhaust electric cutouts so when they were open with the S&B I couldn't really hear the SC.
They are now still very loud with them so open it's been an awesome mod.

If you already have the S&B you can use the shielding pieces and dress the engine bay, looks cleaner than with the stock
t-rex one.

One think I noticed with the Bwoody is the IAT sensor rubber port piece is round doesn't really hold the sensor in place because the OEM sensor cable is a bit short and keeps turning/pulling it back so it can get moved around and give you inaccurate readings.
By zip tying the cable to the 5/8 hose you fix that issue. That should be a step on the manual IMO.

The S&B intake port was also not that sturdy either I guess they all can give you problems so it's better to secure the sensor cable in all of them.

Maybe I missed it but did you ever run the S&B without the lid? Wonder how much that closes the gap between the two.

I almost had never put the lid on mine... still no comparison.
This is the S&B before I swapped :D

From this angle, your I/C fluid looks low.
Thanks
Funny thing is I've taken the truck to the dealer a few times for oil changes and asked. They told me it's normal but it's slightly below "low".
Where do you keep yours at? Have a pic?
What brand should I get

Does anyone have a vid of what the AFE sounds like with the hood open? The SB Sounds great for me, wonder how the AFE compares.

Cps intake here. She whines like the bwoody and uses the hood scoop vent. Another option to consider.
