Catastrophic Failure at 11k Miles?

Putting the fail rate into perspective really eases the minds. The vast majority of these trucks are without issue and some are running fine well over 100k. seems that the issues that are coming up are happening around or under 10k miles.
IMO the HC engine failure rate is incredibly low, considering the HP and the intended use (drive it like you stole it). I give BIG props to FCA and SRT for how they enhanced our lives with big HP from a factory vehicle and a warranty. Now the dealerships are an entirely different story.

My stock 22 engine started making noise at 20k miles. I went to the selling dealer and reported it. Noise became progressively worse as I reported the noise at each oil change. Finally at 60k miles I told them to just keep the truck, I felt it was gonna leave me stranded. They finally looked into it and found multiple spun bearings. They condemned the motor and it has been sitting in the shop for 3 months waiting on who knows what. I opened a case with Ram cares and made contact with my case worker Monday. The truck never quit running but was starting to sounding really bad.
Were you doing your own oil changes??? Looking for sparkly stuff in the pan?

Considering I've only driven my new to me used 23 TRX 3000 miles in the last 8 months (9700 when I bought it, 12700 now). Not sure how the previous owner drove it. But must have broke it in good. Hope I get many years out of it.

What ever the industry average is 3% I think I saw. Most people don't have problems. Those who do are probably already on here. It is how your dealer handles it.

The no shifting is a bit odd, you were able to unlock transfer case though right? To get on flatbed.

100% aggree! Coming up on 15k miles on my late 22' build. Completely stock taking it to the desert here routinely in CA. Long straight away that gets me to work everyday and lets just say it gets me every time hahahah.. these Trucks really are bulletproof! Honestly though my family has had many dodge/ram trucks with very little issues! Old early 90s dually with no issues then a 2002 1500 that got 280k miles with nothing but a new waterpump. My pops 2019 ram has 80k and has been perfect so far! This will prolly be our last Rams though unfortunately. Pops is looking to get one more Truck in a year or so and the hurricane isnt doing it for him. Cant blame him.

Hello TRXers,

Joining the forum here to share my experience so far with my 23' Havoc.

I purchased the truck one year ago and it has lived a pretty easy life. Last week I was coasting to a stop from 50mph and the dash displayed "Service Electronic Throttle". The truck came to an abrupt stop and refused to shift out of park. I attempted to use the manual release to get the truck into neutral, but with no luck. The truck absolutely refused to get out of park even with the shifter in the neutral position. The engine was also struggling to turn over. The truck has close to 11,500 miles on the odometer and the oil was changed at 1,500 and again at 7,000 miles.

I paid for it to be loaded onto a flat bed and taken to the local CDJR dealer. The staff was shocked that they weren't able to get the truck into neutral either. This dealer does not have loaner vehicles so I was given a Chrylser support number and a case was opened. My case manager was supposed to reach out to me within 24 hours, but after three days I had to reach out to support again. I was given a call back and a rental car allowance of $80 per day. The dealer is telling me it will take a minimum of 4-5 weeks if the engine does indeed need to be replaced.

While I was there, the staff was talking about the increase of early engine failures they have seen in the 22-23 model year hellcat engines. I thought this was interesting so I started searching around and it seems that finding examples of TRXs and Demon 170s with engine failure isn't super rare. I am interested to see what the technician finds once the teardown is complete.

The truck has been with the dealer for 9 days but I have not heard from them yet. I will keep everyone here posted in case anyone else out there sees this thread and is having a similar issue. @RamCares

My first TRX blew the motor at 800 miles and they tried to deny the claim. Be on guard and be prepared to be without the truck. Mine was 3+ months. It was more than a month before they agreed to fix it. I didn't get any consideration for a rental for the first 45 days. They actually sent an investigator to review the claim. I was sure they were setting me up for a screwing. After 30 days call there lemon law department. Nothing happens till you go there then negotiate for a free extended warranty and cash for the hassle if its beyond 30 days

I hope it doesn't come to that, but I do appreciate you sharing your experience. I hope I hear something soon from the dealer.

I did submit my rental costs but I haven't received a reply. I have a feeling I am going to have to continually reach out to my case manager to get things done.

Im very sorry to hear about your situation and hope things head in a positive direction soon. Good luck to you

I had the same experience (different problem) with my former 2021 TRX (only 9,500 miles) under warranty. It had a misfire every 5-7 seconds and when I brought it to the dealer they told me it was bad gas. Then they tested the gas and told me it was good. There were no codes generated.

Researching the problem I discovered that a leak in coolant system for the supercharger was likely the reason and told the dealer. Sure enough, the coolant level was low and their solution was to simply fill it up. No misfiring for about 5-miles and then it was back. They insisted that it was the gas and I explained that bad gas would not cause a predictable mis-fire every 5-7 seconds - the truck would instead run like crap all the time. They refused to drain the tank and replace the gas even though I said I would pay for it. Also, no loaners available.

So they opened up a STAR case with Stellantis (Jeep) and absolutely no replies for a week. They told me they couldn't call and that texts were the only form of communications with engineering. I gave up after week 2 and ended up selling it back to the dealer for what I paid in 2021 less around $10K. I was seriously thinking about a new TRX but, based on my experience with the whole organization, I ended up buying a 2024 Raptor R.

I don't think Stellantis's has any intention of continuing the Dodge/Ram legacy at least on the consumer level. They've consumed the EV cool-aid. Service appointments take forever and the apparent lack of good techs is a real issue.

Stellantis is killing Dodge/Ram/Jeep. I’d have done the same thing if I was in your position. Sadly, as much as I love my TRX, when it comes time to replace it I’m going to have to look in a different direction.

I heard from the service manager at the dealership. Pulling the valve covers today and hoping that the metal on metal noise is only coming from the top end.

There's been a lot of issues from trucks coming out of certain factories. The black TRXs are known to our dealer for needing transmissions replaced to due low fluid from the factory.

They should all come from sterling heights
This is the way! I have two vehicles built at Sterling Heights. 2015 Chrysler 20C and 2023 TRX. Not a problem with either one.

I can't say the same about our 21 Durango SRT built at Jefferson North.

I had a 22 TRX that blew the motor at 8k miles. You can read about it here - https://www.ram-trx.com/threads/blown-motor-on-22-trx-kudos-to-2-dealers.16263/#post-316948

Unfortunately youre not in Florida, because if you were I would direct you over to my dealer where they are on top of everything.
What happened to your truck is exactly what happened to mine. Low speed decel and then nothing. Tech thinks it might just be a broken valvespring, but if it is then it also likely had piston to valve contact.

I was supposed to get an update from the dealership yesterday but I never heard anything.

I did phone back into Chrysler Support and they are wanting the paper work from when I originally dropped off the truck to the dealer before they will begin to reimburse for the rental. Why they didn't tell me that a couple weeks ago is beyond me. I am also going to submit my invoice for the cost of the tow which was relatively small ($140) as this occurred a few miles from the dealership luckily. If the truck is going to be down then I am absolutely going to pursue payment reimbursement.

Confirmed this morning that the root cause of failure is a broken valvespring. Not sure if there was any piston to valve contact yet. Expecting a new spring, retainer, locks etc to arrive on Monday according to the service manager.

Submitted my towing invoice to Support as well.
