Ball joint issues?

was told you can not replace the ball joint , it is not serviceable unless you go after mkt control arm , Ball joint and control arm are one unit
Not sure on these trucks, but on quite a few vehicles that I have worked on that said you couldn't replace just the ball joint, I was able to pop out the ball joint and replace it.
But I also did say in the post above that it's best to go aftermarket so the ball joints are serviceable

I have seen it done on GM 1500 and 2500 LCAs.
But I have also seen videos where once the old ball joint is pressed out, the new ball joint is loose and does not seat in the LCA. With the aluminum LCA on the TRX, my guess is.....its one and done. No way to properly seat the new ball joint.

Ya, probably. All the ones I've done were on steel control arms, not aluminum

You sometimes CAN replace just the ball joint.

Option #1 is heating up the control arm and pressing the ball joint out. Sometimes this is enough to get the ball out without enlarging or damaging the control arm bore.

Option #2 is buying an aftermarket ball joint with a larger diameter than the OEM. They don't make these for everything though, so you may be SOL.

I'm going to look around and see if there are any wrecked trucks I can pull a control arm off, that would seem to be the easiest solution.

Maybe someone on here has swapped out their lowers and has a set with good ball joints still in them

Yea, control arms are expensive to ship though, much easier to find some locally. Houston is a big city, I've bought more than a few parts off wrecked trucks.

Who has good set of balls on here? :ROFLMAO:

The 8-year-old in me will now digress 😂
You're a child. I love it. :ROFLMAO:

Very true. I'm also in the Houston area. Used to go to Charlie's auto salvage off 2920 all the time
