I was about to start poking around for a power source to tap into on the upper console/ mirror. Figured I would post here just to see if someone already figured it out and the easiest place to grab ignition power from?

I've done my Trackhawk, prior 1500 Sport and all my Challenger hellcats the exact same way. Blendmount to hold my V1 2.0 and blendmount wire tap off the mirror as well. I would assume this will be the same more or less. Once I have my truck I'll do it again.

I'm also curious if anyone knows what pins to tap off of for a blendmount under mirror setup.

if someone figures it out post here please?

This is from my 2019 wiring diagrams manual, but should still apply:

You're looking to tap off of the pink/yellow wire on pin #5 of the mirror connector for switched power, and pin #4 for the ground. Verify with a DVM prior to splicing (obviously), but hopefully they kept the base wiring, and just added the additional video signal from the rear camera on a previously-unused pin.

Thanks Tom, will definitely verify with a Fluke. Much Appreciated!

@Selling4fishing has already done it, here's a quote from another thread where he detailed his install; sounds really easy.

"Under the sunglass/ sunroof control panel. You have a power and ground on the bigger gauge hardness that plugs into the controls. Supper easy, just make sure to pinch the two tabs in the sunglass holder. There is two screws plus tabs in there."

This sounds like a better plan, as the wiring would be more hidden. Here's the removal instructions:

The only problem is, at least in the 2019 wiring diagram, I only see a constant power source here (pin #2 on the 16-pin connector, red wire). There's no switched power available.

I usually just run a visor mount where my V1 sits solid & easy to adjust, mute etc. hardwired to the fuse box & the wire pokes out right at the headliner/windshield area so the radar detector & wire is out of sight as best as possible and I can unplug the radar, hide the wire & store the detector so there’s no evidence its in the car.

The blend mount looks cool. Trying to decide what to do with the TRX so will be following your guys moves.

Let us know how you made out with the hardwire....if you found any tips, tricks or suggestions! The mount looks great.
It was super simple. I ordered this hardwire kit for my radar from Amazon:

Escort Direct Wire Power Cord for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0003NN83U?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I ran the wire along the headliner and down the door seal, tapping into a fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel. The panel in front of the fuse box under the steering column is easily removed by two screws along the bottom side and pulling it off. As for the wire, I was able to tuck it into the headliner and under the door seal, routing it to the fuse box without and tools.

I tapped a fuse in the fuse box i found on the Ram 5th gen forum - people were talking about it being a fuse not in use for anything; not sure if that’s the case on our TRX but I used it nevertheless and found it to only receive power the ACC is on or the engine started.

below are pictures with a mark up of my routing, the panel removed under the steering column to gain access to the fuse box, and a picture (not mine) taken from the 5th gen forum of the fuse I used in the fuse box.

My V1 is hardwired on my Ninja H2 & the mount to the right of the ignition is where I keep my iphone running Waze Navigation with Police alerts, bluetooth to helmet speakers. This combination has kept me out of prison.

The fuse you used is fuse #66, and it's listed as "Run Accessory Feed - If Equipped". Here's the wiring diagram for that circuit:

So yes, it's an unused circuit - perfect for tapping in to.

Just an FYI - the common terminal of the relay, #30, is fed by a pair of 80A fuses from the PDC. The relay is engaged in ACC/RUN modes by the green/gray wire energizing the coil.

Hopefully, you tapped into the load side of the fuse, not the line side - otherwise, you'll have up to 160A of unfused current at your detector, in the event of a short :)

I haven't checked out the direct wire kit yet, but I'm hoping there is an inline fuse to protect the radar unit.....

I don’t bother to direct wire. I’ve always just used a Mirror Tap kit and I’m done in ten minutes.
